ENTITY Magazine lists 4 pieces of practical advice to take into the real world.

Imagine finding an internship on the web that sounds perfect. It’s pretty hard, isn’t it? Working at Entity as an editorial intern wasn’t just an experience to pop on my resume and call it day, it ended up being so much more than that.

There were many lessons and experiences I was exposed to while working at Entity, and they are definitely going to help me out in the big, scary real world.

Here are my top 4 things I learned from Entity that I’ll use in the future:

1 Everything Can be an Article

Seriously – everything. Working and collaborating with the other amazing ladies in the office helped me realize that what I’m interested in or topics I know about are so limited. Being around coworkers to talk and bounce ideas off of really gets your brain working. At Entity, everyone is so creative and open-minded that by just talking at lunch, you’ll hear at least 3 times, “You should write an article about that!” One article may spin off into three or four more articles from different perspectives, you never know.

2 Play Hard, Work Harder

Everyone needs a vacation sometimes, but it’s important that vacation doesn’t become work. If you replace your work with partying or traveling, then your life can spiral out of control. Having a full schedule can be daunting at times, but accomplishing all that you needed to get done is not only a relief, but a cause for celebration.

3 Flexibility is Key

Being able to be flexible with your schedule, how you learn and how you execute things is extremely important not just for your job, but in life. If all your life you’ve been writing essays the same way, it’s time to switch it up a bit – you may find it’s a bit faster to start with the body paragraphs first and make your way back to the intro. Opening yourself up to opportunities that may be a bit out of your comfort zone can also lead to experiences that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

4 Attitude and Gratitude

Reputation is key – your attitude around your coworkers and boss can cement a reputation for life. Although we’d all like to think that your reputation shouldn’t matter, it does. Until that changes, you should always remember that gratitude can also go a long way to make a positive lasting impression.
