Entity shares companies that have been founded by female entrepreneurs.

Female entrepreneurs are sprouting up left and right, and these inspirational women are leaving their mark in the business world.

According to Fox News, female-owned online businesses generated $1.5 trillion in revenue in 2014. And the rate of female entrepreneurs is quickly growing, changing the name of what it means to be a founder and CEO. At the heart of every entrepreneur is the dream to make it big. For these five women, that dream resulted in rapid company expansion.

Here is ENTITY’s list of five companies founded by female entrepreneurs who are worth over $100 million:

1 LEARNVEST.

LearnVest is a financial tools and service company for women that was founded by Harvard dropout, Alexa von Tobel. According to Business Insider, in 2011, when Tobel was only 27 years old, the company was valued at around $100 million.

2 BIRCHBOX.

Birchbox, a subscription service that sends its subscribers monthly sample boxes of beauty products, was started by Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp. In 2014, it was assessed at $485 million and in the first three and a half years of existence, Birchbox had $96 million in annual sales. The two women met at Harvard Business School and began the business together in 2010.

3 LIQUID PAPER.

Liquid Paper, a company that created what we now know of as White-Out, was founded by Bette Nesmith Graham in the 1950s. Graham was a single mother working as a secretary. She sold her first bottle of what was then called Mistake Out in 1956. In 1979, Graham sold the company for $47.5 million, which equates with inflation to over $100 million today.

4 THE BODY SHOP.

The Body Shop, a beauty brand, was founded by Anita Roddick in 1976. Business News Daily reports that not only is Roddick a successful entrepreneur (Roddick sold The Body Shop for $1.4 billion to L’Oreal in 2016!), the inspirational woman is also a human rights activist, a value that runs through The Body Shop’s mission statement.

5 DISCOVERY TOYS.

Discovery Toys was founded by Lane Nemeth in 1978. Nemeth was a pre-school teacher and borrowed $5,000 from her grandmother to start Discovery Toys, an educational toy line. Before Nemeth sold the toy company to Avon, Discovery Toys was up to $100 million a year in sales.
