ENTITY reports on Bacon Day.

It’s more than just a breakfast side, it’s a lifestyle. Bacon Day, which is on September 2nd, is a day to gather around the table to honor everything that is bacon.

Bacon Day was born in 1997 by Danya Goodman and Meff Leonard. The two wanted to create a holiday where people could come together for a collective bond.

Where did bacon come from? Was it always a breakfast staple?

1 Bacon has been around since Medieval times.

Bacon aka pork belly has been cooked up in China for thousands of years. These kinds of styles for preserving food traveled all the way to Rome. Later, people living in poverty would cook with bacon fat.

Bacon is a word that is a combination of German and French dialects. The breakfast side is known as “gammon” in modern England and one slice of bacon is referred to as a rasher.

In the English town of Dunmow, the church promised a slice of bacon to any man who promised not to argue with their wife for one year. Any man who was able to fulfill this task was regarded an honorable man in the community.

3 Bacon cures hangovers.

Studies show that booze will leave your body quicker if you eat food after. It increases your metabolism, thus getting rid of the drank.

Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University’s Centre for Life, says that bacon gives you the amino acids you need to cure your hangover.

“Bread is high in carbohydrates and bacon is full of protein, which breaks down into amino acids. Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good. Bingeing on alcohol depletes neurotransmitters too, but bacon contains a high level of aminos, which tops these up, giving you a clearer head,” shared Roberts.

4 Bacon helps babies when they are still baking in the oven.

The University of North Carolina researchers conducted a study with mice showing the mice that had been fed bacon came out with healthier babies.

Gerald Weissmann, MD, Editor-in-Chief of the FASEB Journal said we need to be open minded about foods that are deemed as unhealthy.

“We may never be able to call bacon a health food with a straight face, but the emerging field of epigenetics is already making us rethink those things that we consider healthful and unhealthful. This is yet another example showing that good prenatal nutrition is vitally important throughout a child’s entire lifetime,” said Weissmann.

5 Bacon helped make explosives during World War II.

It turns out that bacon helped make bombs during the second World War. Housewives were told to save all fats that they accumulated from cooking so they may donate it to the army.

One pound of fat created one pound of explosives. Sadly not many housewives answered America’s call to duty because only half donated excess cooking fats. The reason was that everyone was trying to save the cooking fats for themselves. When rations were imposed, cooking grease was hard to come by.

Bacon lovers could only be encompassed in one Ron Swanson experience.

“I’m worried what you just heard was give me a lot of bacon and eggs. What I said was, ‘Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.’”

“Do you understand?”

We understand, Ron.
