Entity tells you why you should replacing going to the gym with Kabaddi.

Let’s face it – going to the gym is rewarding, but it can get old after a while. Pumping iron, running on the treadmill and busting out some squats may not be as stimulating as it used to be the first couple of weeks. You want to stay fit, but picking up a sport like running or swimming doesn’t really appeal to you either. What do you do?

If you find yourself in this situation, you can always turn to kabaddi. Never heard of the sport? That’s probably because it’s a game with its biggest audience in South Asia, and especially India. However, this sport has recently spread across several European countries and even made its way into the United States.

According to Tutorialspoint, “Kabaddi is a popular team sport, which needs skill and power, and conflates the characteristics of wrestling and rugby.” Originating 4,000 years ago in India, the game’s main objective is to “grab points by raiding into the opponent’s court and touching as many opponent players as possible without getting caught on a single breath.”

It’s easy to see why kabaddi’s becoming more popular: All you need is some friends, a whistle and a place to play. What’s not to like?  So if you’re willing to try out something fun that is new and doesn’t require a gym, then you should try out kabaddi. Here’s why.

1 There’s nothing like fresh air.

Exercising in the gym can be helpful for people who don’t have exercise equipment in their homes, but gyms are known for the stagnant, recycled air, the smell of multitudes of sweating bodies and the humid atmosphere that sticks to your body. It’s enough to turn away many men and women. But kabaddi is played outside, so you’ll have plenty of fresh air and vitamin D! So cancel that expensive gym membership, call up a few friends and get outside for a game of kabaddi.

2 Exercising with friends? Yes please.

Who says exercising has to be boring? Many people go to the gym by themselves. But why go solo when you can hang out with your besties and exercise at the same time? Grab a handful of friends and set off towards the nearest park to play some kabaddi. It’s sure to fill your day with laughs, fun and chit chat. Although the game will spark your competitive spirit, you and your friends can celebrate your wins (or losses) over an açai bowl after the game!

3 Kabaddi increases your stamina.

Does trudging up staircases leave you heaving for breath when you reach the top? Kabaddi can help with that. In fact, this sport focuses on building up stamina. When you’re trying to score a point in kabaddi, you have to tag members of the arm-linked opposing team and you can’t inhale until you’ve crossed back to your team’s side to score a point. This forces you to rely on one big breath for quite a bit of time, which allows your lungs – and the rest of your body – to steadily grow stronger the more you play.

4 Your reflexes and speed will improve.

Ever wish you had the ninja-like reflexes of the stars in action movies? The best way to develop better reflexes is through playing an active sport like kabaddi, not a 20-minute jog on the treadmill. While playing, you have to avoid getting tagged by the opposing team. Before you know it, you’ll be sprinting as fast as a cheetah and dodging obstacles like you’re in “The Matrix!”
