5 things to know about Entity

What is ENTITY? Well, first of all, we’re an online publication founded by a true Woman That Does, Jennifer Schwab Wangers. We’re also the host of the Entity Magazine internship (more details on that later). You may even know us as Entity Magazine San Diego or Entity Magazine Los Angeles, where our first internships took place.

But what does ENTITY really believe in? Here are five things you should definitely know.

1 We support women of all political beliefs and backgrounds.

It’s impossible to deny the fact that, since Trump’s election as President, we’re living in a divided America. Equally undeniable is that women have used this time to make their voices heard. Some have protested Trump’s election and policies through movements like the Women’s March on Washington. Others – perhaps most famously, his daughter, Ivanka Trump – have supported Trump and have been called out as “complicit.”

But as Jennifer Schwab Wangers wrote shortly after the election: “Here at ENTITY, we are for all women. Our mission is to help and support all women in whatever pursuits they choose, within their own concept of accomplishment … Here is my promise that we will try to meet the needs of all women and support your efforts no matter what the Trump presidency brings.”

Right now, the country isn’t the only group that is divided; women are, too. However, ENTITY will never stop speaking and supporting all women, regardless of the politics each woman holds.

2 We believe it’s important to point out the women who didn’t receive the credit they deserve.

If you think back to history class in school, you’ll probably notice a trend: most of the historical figures studied were male. In fact, a 2016 study found that nearly 72 percent of the best-selling biographies in 2015 were about men and 87 percent of them were written by men.

ENTITY hopes to empower women of the future by highlighting inspirational female figures from the past. How? Our #WomenThatDid series. From famous members of royalty like Anne of Cleves to inspiring female athletes like Tidye Pickett-Phillips, ENTITY shares the (both well-known and understated) accomplishments of women before us. At the same time, though, we also celebrate #WomenThatDo, or women who are kicking butt right now.

Through this combination of historical and contemporary role models, we hope to highlight how women have been making a difference in the world for centuries … and aren’t slowing down anytime soon!

3 We broke that story about Harvey Levin visiting the White House.

Do you remember reading about TMZ’s Harvey Levin quietly meeting with President Donald Trump – even as Russian allegations continued to grow? That story broke at ENTITY first, before it was picked up by sites like The Wrap and The New York Times.

Places like Spin and Adweek then wrote follow-up stories on how ENTITY “scooped everyone,” in the words of Spin. Well, we just have this to say: we’re glad to call attention to an important political topic; this definitely isn’t the last time you’ll learn the scoop first our website; and we’re ready to keep reaching more women all over the world.

4 We want to help empower women in every aspect of their daily lives.

So what is the point of ENTITY? In one word: empowerment. However, empowerment means more than just electing women into office or having fair laws for men and women (though both of those are important). It’s also about women being able to support other women, instead of seeing them as competitors. It’s about being knowledgable about other cultures, and feeling safe, supported and loved in your relationships.

ENTITY strives to include all of these points within our goal of empowerment. That’s why we don’t just write about succeeding in your career or tying the knot with Mr. Right. We try to address the multitude of issues that women face today, from making sustainable fashion choices to enjoying your time as a single woman. We believe every woman – of every age, ethnic background, socioeconomic status and sexuality – has the potential to become one of the #WomenThatDo. Even more importantly, we want to give women the skills to make that transformation.

5 Through Entity Academy, more young women can have the chance to join the ENTITY family.

We mentioned the Entity Magazine internship earlier, and now it’s time to get the real scoop. Right now, ENTITY is accepting applications for its 10-week mentorship program. The highlights? Being able to explore career options within the media and communication field, meeting other kick-butt ladies who are chasing similar dreams and making connections to female mentors who can give you the tips and tricks you need to succeed in your chosen career.

We could say even more … but the video below explains it pretty well.

This internship exemplifies a lot of what you need to know about ENTITY, like how we want women to support women. We want to encourage cross-generational mentorship and teaching. And, perhaps most importantly, we want to teach women to not only dream, but to act on those dreams.

Do these five facts cover everything you need to know about ENTITY? To be honest, probably not. We can only tell you so much about what ENTITY stands for and what we believe. To find out more, you need to experience ENTITY … so keep reading, keep doing and keep joining the ranks of the #WomenThatDo.
