Entity reports that America did not take part in the World Government Summit in Dubai.

Every major country, except one, is currently participating in a global summit designed to make the world a better place. The United States has stayed away from the World Government Summit in Dubai.

The Trump administration has sent nobody to the world’s largest ever gathering of international government officials as it instead focuses on its “America first” agenda.

That decision – which comes just one year after President Obama considered the annual event so important that he addressed the Dubai summit himself – has disappointed delegates from many of the 139 nations in attendance.

“We are a global community with a joint destiny and have to work together on solutions to things that could bring humankind down, like nuclear weapons, epidemics and environmental issues,” said  Professor Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum.

“We have to explore the future through multi-state co-operation and need new thinking to go forward. But the erecting of walls leads to a world more anchored in yesterday and characterized by hostility.”

Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, told the summit that the lesson to be learned from the election of Donald Trump and the Brexit vote was that not everyone was a fan of globalization.

“Governments around the world should be mindful of excessive inequalities,” she said. “We have not looked enough at those who are negatively impacted by technology, such as with jobs lost by the substitution of manpower for machines.”

World Government Summit in Dubai

The Trump presidency and his headline hitting immigration ban are not among the agenda items at this fifth annual World Government Summit. But economic inequality, terrorism, sustainability and happiness are.

So too is technology and a Museum of the Future specially erected for the event displays biotechnology and robotics used to grow fresh food and erect new buildings.

Much of the first day of the three-day summit was devoted to governments developing customized strategies to combat extremist ideologies that lead to terrorism.

But in a lighter moment, jetsetter Christine Legarde shared with the 4,000 attendees her secret for beating jet lag.

“I highly recommend swimming as quickly as you can after getting off a plane,” she said. “Yesterday I went for a 30 minute swim in the sea and felt totally rejuvenated.”

Keynote speakers on the summit’s second day, Monday, will include the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and Tesla founder Elon Musk.
