Entity asks the question: has American Horror Story run out of ideas?

It’s Halloween and TV’s scariest show has announced its plans for a new season … but you may have seen it all before.

“American Horror Story,” a series usually praised for its innovation and complexity, plans to create a mash-up of previous stories, “Murder House” and “Coven.”

The Emmy-winning FX drama, starring Sarah Paulson, has been known for bringing back old stars in new contexts, but there will be something even more familiar about this upcoming season. It will mix elements from “Murder House,” a story centered around a haunted house, and “Coven,” which followed a group of Salem witches. However, specifics for this future season, which won’t be seen until 2018, at the earliest, are in short supply.

“We do know what we’re going to do. It’s not going to be next season,” producer Ryan Murphy said at EW’s PopFest Sunday. “We are going to do a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre.”

“I’ve [already] started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, ‘I think in this window, if you could fit us in,” said Murphy. “So yeah, it’s fun. It’s weird.”

So far, AHS has only featured crossover characters in singular episodes. In fact, “Roanoke” is set to bring back Paulson’s old “American Horror Story: Asylum” character, Lana Winters. But now, fans are wondering what’s going to happen to the actors and actresses, like Paulson, who have large roles in both “Murder House” and “Coven.”
