Sure Becca Longo isn’t the first woman to play football, but she’s making history in another way.

This Basha High School senior from Chandler, Arizona has just signed a letter of intent to play football at Adams State University in Colorado. At just 18 years old, she’s become the first woman to earn a scholarship to an NCAA school at the Division II level or higher.

But guess what? That’s not the only thing amazing about this future Adams State kicker.

ENTITY is here to help you get to know the young player before she becomes a massive star.

Although she had been an athlete her whole life, Longo never started playing football competitively until her second year. She knew she wanted to play in college so she made a highlight reel and sent it to different schools.

2 She was inspired by another female football player.

As a young girl, Longo went to her brother’s football games and was drawn to his teammate, Heidi Garrett. This female kicker had a 48-yard field goal, which is believed to be the longest kick ever by a girl in a competitive game.

3 Becca Longo’s career almost ended.

During her junior year, Longo suffered from a back injury that lead doctors to believe she would never be able to play again. However, the kicker proved them wrong by fully recovering and making it to the spring football season that year.

4 Her coaches didn t even realize they were making history.

Timm Rosenbach, head coach of the Adams State football team, didn’t realize that giving this scholarship to Longo was going to get so much attention.

“It was like recruiting any other athlete,” he said in an interview with the Arizona Republic. “In Division II, we can see their workouts. To me, there is no doubt she can be competitive. She has a strong leg and she can be very accurate.”

5 But football isn t the only sport Becca Longo will be playing.

The female athlete also signed on to play on Adams State’s basketball team. Longo averaged 2.9 points per game and 1.6 rebounds as a senior.
