Adobe Meets ENTITY

For graphic design week at ENTITY, I had the opportunity to play around with Adobe Creative Suite. While I do have some experience in other applications, Illustrator and Photoshop were new to me. As a creative person, I quickly realized how important Adobe was for my future.

Why The Businesswoman in Me Loves Adobe

I want to start my own business someday, and personal branding is essential for that. A brand projects a consistent and professional image. This adds to any creative person’s reputation, which will then add to the reputation of their work.

So branding is essential. How does Adobe fit into this?

When working on a brand, finding your style is extremely important. To properly explore this, ENTITY interns used Adobe InDesign to work on a style guide. InDesign’s templates allowed us to stay precise and professional. We also used Adobe’s free, online color wheel to pick out our own color palette.

While picking out colors, my thoughts were immediately drawn to the neutral look of my closet. I always find myself buying clothes with simple designs as well as olive, beige and grey colors. When it comes to the way I dress, I typically like to look earthy and cool.

I used fashion—the way I already expressed myself— as inspiration for my brand’s style. While this worked for me, it might not work for you. Inspiration for your brand’s style can come from anywhere. Find something important to your own identity, and work from there.

What’s Your Type?

Fonts also play an essential role in your brand’s style. Each typeface has a personality that conveys a different image. For example, a salon or boutique would likely pick a fancy script to represent their business. A construction company, however, might choose a bold typeface.

While I was looking for a font, I thought about who I wanted to attract and how I wanted them to view me. The perfect typeface should appeal to your target audience. If it doesn’t look engaging to a potential client or customer, they may not give your business a chance.

What Adobe Means To Me

Adobe helped me bring my creativity to life. Each graphic design program allowed me to customize documents to my own style. When I start my business, I know Adobe Suite will give me complete control over what everything looks like. If I don’t have enough money for a graphic designer, it’s nice to know that I can make everything myself.

Adobe tools serve a great value for creatives, designers and entrepreneurs. Having access to Adobe has allowed me to produce my own resumes, portfolios and business cards. More than that, my final products aren’t ripping off anyone else’s templates; they’re authentic and original to my personality.

No matter the career path, Adobe Suite is essential. Check out my quote card above for an example of what you can create. I hope you have as much fun with the applications as I did.
