ENTITY shares easy hairstyles.

Somewhere along the way you slept through your alarm and are rushing out the door when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. You’ve got to do something with your hair. You can put it back in a braid to disguise the mess, but they’re out of the question.

Okay, maybe your situation isn’t that dramatic. Perhaps you’re just looking to switch things up a bit from your trusty ponytail. Maybe you never got around to practicing and implementing your Pinterest arsenal of hairstyles (or you did and found they were way to difficult).

In any case, we’ve rounded up some easy hairstyles to do yourself, along with great tutorials to help you step by step.

1 Half-up top knot

When you’re feeling really lazy and only want to mess with half of your hair, this is a perfect style.

Not only is it easy, but it’s quick. All you have to do is make a small ponytail on top of your head, twist it into a bun and pin it. That’s all there is to it.

You can leave the rest of your hair as is, straighten it, curl it or whatever else you like. Mastering this one is great for your lazy days and for those days when you’re feeling a bit sassier than usual.

2 The rope braid

I know this has the word “braid” in it and tangling those three or more strands together is a nightmare. Don’t let the name fool you. This is much easier.

The rope braid only deals with two sections of hair rather than three. The motion is as simple as twisting the two sections together, adding more hair as you go.

In this tutorial, hair stylist and blogger Alex Gaboury turns the rope braid into a pretty updo. However, there are easier ways to handle this braid. The rope braid can be made half-up, which makes it perfect for any hair length. You can even just use it to pull those pesky bangs away from your face, which is perfect for any physical activity.

3 A ponytail with some extra volume

If you really can’t get away from that ponytail, then here’s a way to make it a little more glamorous. The trick is making one ponytail instead of two and taking an extra minute to tease your hair to get some volume.

Then, by stacking the two ponytails, the tail is much thicker and longer.

If you want to make it a little sassier, celebrity makeup and hair artist Allison Pynn explains in the video that you can move the ponytail up higher on your head.

If you’re a short-haired gal, you can still achieve something similar, just practice the teasing and pin the top half of your hair back with pins.

4 The classic French twist

There’s a reason your grandma has been rocking this for the past fifty years. It never goes out of style.

It’s the perfect updo for the office or for an evening event. The trick is to give it some volume and have lots of bobby pins at the ready when you want to make it less casual.

The hardest part is trying to roll it up without moving everything out of place. As the tutorial above shows, pinning it to the side before rolling keeps everything together.

5 The French braid

Yes, we’ve already established that braids are a little bit too complicated for you.  But trust me, this tutorial is a game changer. Hairstyling rookies, this tutorial was made for you.

Those pretty hairstyles you’ve always wanted to try out? Many of them start with the french braid.

If you’re still thinking to yourself, “I’ve tried to braid over and over again, but it never comes out right,” you might want to take another look. In this tutorial, YouTuber augustashes makes what she calls a ladder with her fingers so that the hair stays separated and is easy to maneuver.

Give it a try. Once you’ve mastered this, the possibilities are endless. Then you can move beyond these easy hairstyles to rock the braids of your dreams. Maybe even try that Pinterest style again, just to see what happens.
