Devon, The Systematic Sovereign (ESTJ)

Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging

Overview

As The Systematic Sovereign Devons are confident, decisive and well-organized. And they like to get stuff done. It doesn’t matter what it is, you can ensure a Devon will get anything and anyone information. Devons look to books and journals to tell them how to best handle situations and are extremely driven by past, proven theories for ways of management. Devons are natural leaders and authority figures. It’s not unlikely that Devon was that girl you could swear was 27 in high school. They had it together, whatever it was. Devons always, always had their goals locked down.

Strengths

Devons KNOW how to command a room, a fleet of ships, a soccer team or a team of astronauts. Devons can be found as captains of every industry, and feel confident as authority figures even when they are unsure of themselves (A Devon will NEVER let that show.).

“Work hard, worker even harder, and play, but let’s make this play useful towards our ultimate target goals,” might be the Devon slogan. She is all about getting results, even if she has to move mountains to make it happen. If there’s chaos, trust that a Devon will be the girl to get a rowdy crowd to calm down or a chatty classroom to stop talking. Devons are major players, road pavers and declaration signers. They have a solid plan and they want everyone to follow it accordingly.

These Systematic Sovereigns believe there is a "right way" and a "wrong way" to do something, and with their strong analytical minds, you bet they think theirs is the right way!

Common Strengths: Strong Willed, Dedicated, Direct, Create Order, Organized, Decisive, Bold, Logical, Analytical

Weaknesses

Despite their amazing ability to reach goals through leadership and direction, Devons can sometimes get too caught up in their own ego. They are often perceived as domineering or as bullies.

Devons need to learn when and how to just let go sometimes and ask for help. It’s paramount to communicate. Nothing can be accomplished totally alone. Devons should learn to deal out some of their power and command so that there remains lawful balance. No one wants a dictatorship, and Devon has to be careful of that, whether she’s president of France or president of her sorority. Being able to break out of hierarchical roles or even just taking a break could do Devons a world of difference in their overall stress level.  Basically, Devons could use a plain ‘ole afternoon nap (and that’s an order).

Common Weaknesses: Overbearing, Stubborn, Judgmental, Too Focused on Social Status, Difficult to Relax, Difficulty Expressing Emotion

Romantic Relationships

Domineering Devon can come on a little too strong at times in romance; however, to naysayer's surprise - that dogged determination is both sexy and successful. In fact, many men and women are in awe of Devon’s ability to walk into a room and get attention from anyone she has her eye on. Other personality types want to drink a little of the Devon Kool-Aid in that regard.

Once in a relationship, ESTJs are trustworthy, dutiful, and responsible but can sometimes be a total nag! Strong-willed Devon should embrace her commanding energy, but also be aware that the people she dates will want to feel in control once in awhile. After all, the phrase, “it takes two to tango” wasn’t made up for nothing. That being said, Devon is most comfortable being the lead in said tango. Devons want a relationship with someone who appreciates their executive nature as well as someone she can nurture productive, fulfilling dreams with. A romance with Devon is both inspiring and dependable, like a flip phone! (Those seriously never ran out of batteries. Ever!).

Friendships

Devons have clear and concise expectations for their friends. As natural leaders, they want their friends’ loyalty and respect. Devons emphasize that if something is planned, they want everyone to show up as responded. Devons don’t like last-minute chaos like two perpetual “Maybes” on a Facebook event showing up with a crew of ten.

As someone who values order, a Devon is specific in her intentions and her wishes for her friends. Deviating from this can be devastating for a Devon, and she will question a friend’s loyalty after the fact. Like in most other areas, Devons could benefit from laying low for a bit and letting their go-with-the-flow friends have a hand in commanding the plans sometime. Overall, Devons just want to be surrounded by the same kind of hard work, and productivity they’ve grown to adore in themselves (and it’s okay to love yourself, too… just don’t look into the mirror for too long!).

Career Path & Workplace Habits

Devons are fantastic at organizing literally everything under the sun, from paperwork to frazzled interns and middle management. Devons thrive as managers or project leaders. Don’t be surprised if Devon is an intern one year and next made an associate as a new grad!

Devons are those A+, mile-high women who seem to soar. That being said, even a bird, plane and Superman have to come back down to Earth every once in a while. Devons need to make sure to keep their work egos in check, since flying too high could risk Devon her respect amongst co-workers. No one likes a selfish or egotistical leader. Every Devon should remember to take a step back and appreciate all the groundbreaking, amazing work their employees or co-workers have done with their guidance at the helm. If a workplace needs order, structure, discipline, and someone reality-based and dependable, Devon is the next future leader for them.
