Gemma, The Rogue Risk Taker (ESTP)

Extroverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving

Overview

“Is this a rollercoaster or another day with Gemma?” is what many Gemma associates would playfully say to describe their risk-loving friend. The energy of a terrier anxious to go out for a walk, and the thrill-seeking of Indiana Jones in “The Last Crusade.” They are energetic, enigmatic, active and playful.

Truly The Rogue Risk Taker, extroverted Gemmas are the outgoing life of the party, ready to introduce you to their 10,000 best friends and regale you with tales of fighting off rattlesnakes in Bali and saving children during a devastating hurricane. She is herself a hurricane of energy, excitement, enthusiasm, and thrill. Gemmas are basically a “Mission Impossible” movie trailer brought to life in the form of a very spunky, charismatic woman. Gemmas don’t like to be dull or boring and prefer show-woman-like qualities of comedy and lightheartedness since serious and deeply emotional sound tres boring to mile-a-minute Gemma. They truly believe in the "art of living".

ESTPs make up around 4.4% of the population, making them pretty rare.

Famous ESTPs: Madonna, Mila Kunis, Eva Peron, Anna Wintour, Amy Winehouse

Strengths

Gemmas are extremely physically capable and are able to commit to daring stunts and thrill-seeking adventures because of their natural propensity for athleticism and coordination. Who is flying across the ravine on a rope in Brazil? It’s Gemma. Who is catapulting into the air during trapeze lessons? Oh, just casually Gemma. She’s the person whose stories seem unbelievable -- except, nope, she definitely was gliding through the glacier, hanging from a helicopter with a GoPro. Of course, without Gemma’s show-woman energy, her stories wouldn’t be half as exciting. One of Gemma’s greatest extrovert strengths is that of a storyteller who is capable of garnering attention and natural praise from those around her. Gemmas are extraordinary and certainly entertaining.

Common Strengths: Curious, Gregarious, Logical, Bold, Practical, Original, Social, Direct, Great at Perception, Problem-Solvers

Weaknesses

Extroverted Gemmas are very over the top and sometimes cross a line when joking with both friends and strangers. What may seem as plain fun by Gemma could be cutting and hurtful to someone more sensitive or unfamiliar with her humor. In addition, Gemmas should learn to step out of the spotlight since they can overshadow others who may grow tired of the constant performance. That being said, all of this can be easily attained by Gemmas practicing mindfulness and working more on their empathy or compassion skills.  Gemmas are also likely to get into dangerous situations because of their brazen confidence and athleticism. Because ESTPs tend to live moment-to-moment, they can sometimes miss the big picture and the consequences that go with it.

It’s good to have even a little caution and not throw it all to the wind -- or rather in Gemma’s case -- throw all care into a Tornado!

Common Weaknesses:  Impatient, Too Risky, Lacks Structure, Defiant, Arrogant, Lose Sight of Big Picture

Romantic Relationships

Gemmas need a partner who can keep up with her thrilling energy and activities. She is very outgoing, flirty and not afraid to be sexy when she feels like it. She is honestly female empowerment in a POW! nutshell. Gemmas are fun-loving partners and try to avoid serious discussions. If a conflict arises, it can be dramatic and heated. However, Gemmas will use her quick-thinking to find a solution and maybe ignite further passion with her partner after a heated argument.

Gemmas need to be more mindful of their partners’ emotions and try to lessen the thrill-seeking in dating. Gemmas have short attention spans and when she feels passion is damped or lessened, she wants to move on to the next dazzling person in her orbit. Gemma could benefit from considering the value of a deeper intimate bond, even if it’s not a monogamous relationship or forever.  People will inevitably be boring sometimes, and that can be a good thing! If Gemma realizes this, she can still apply her thrills to other areas of her relationship and their activities together. Bungee jumping in the Grand Canyon is a nice third date option. It’s always an adventure with Gemma.

Friendships

Gemmas, true to her storytelling skills and show-woman appeal, are very persuasive friends. She is definitely the friend to convince others to sneak out to their first party (and probably have the time of their lives) or find some secret cave in your hometown like a true-to-life Tom Sawyer. However, for all the fun thrills, Gemmas can be VERY blunt and aggressive towards their close friends. Gemmas would benefit from more compassionate practices and taking a breath before saying immediately what’s on their mind. In addition, she can persuade people to do her bidding, which she must learn to curtail or will lose the trust of her beloved friends. Overall, Gemmas are exciting, enthusiastic friends who are great entertainers -- keeping their friends ROFL-ing for eternity.

Career Path & Workplace Habits

Quick-thinking Gemmas are excellent to have at work for immediate problems that need fixing at a meeting or even leading a zip-line tour over Alaskan forests. Gemmas are informed by past adventures on how to problem solve and are amazingly fast at fixing problems big and small. Why is Gemma so good at this? Well, her brazen attitude and fearlessness have totally put her in harm’s way more times than she can recall. So, Gemma takes her mistakes as a learning opportunity to be able to save the day at any time in the future.

Gemmas excel at athletic careers or anything that involves physical labor. Gemmas are amazing women as skyscraper electricians, adventure tour guides, and archaeologists. Whatever involves intense bodily skill and frequent travel is something attractive to Gemmas. She must learn, however, to work with a team and have compassion for the underdogs who are lagging behind or may have physical roadblocks that prevent them from being as nimble as she is.

Gemmas are needed in workplaces to add fervent enthusiasm, entertaining character, unmatched energy and deft physical skills.
