Entity explains how to determine the right ring size.

Do you remember that awkward time when your friend’s soulmate proposed and the ring didn’t fit? If you’re a woman planning on getting engaged soon, you definitely don’t want this happening to you. Finding the most accurate ring size doesn’t have to be done by making a time-consuming trip to a jeweler. There are easy methods that can be done straight from the comfort of your home. Whether you’re looking to buy a ring online or planning to pop the question, here are two ways to correctly find your ring size.

1 USE A STRIP OF PAPER AND A RULER.

How to Measure:
After you cut a thin strip of paper, wrap the strip around your finger. Make sure that the paper is placed between the middle and base knuckle. Mark the part where the end of the strip meets the rest of the paper, then measure with a ruler.

Things to Keep in Mind:
If you have large middle knuckles, it’s best to measure that knuckle as well, so that you can slide the ring over.

Additional Notes:
This method could also be done with string, tape or wire.

2 MEASURE EXISTING RINGS.

How to Measure:
Once you print out a ring size chart, grab an existing ring and compare it. Place the ring over each size on the chart until you get a match.

Things to Keep in Mind:
Dominant hands tend to be a little bit bigger so if you’re using a ring from a non-dominant hand, go up a size. Wider bands fit tighter than thinner rings, so try your best to choose a ring that is similar in width size.

Additional Notes:
This method is perfect for trying to sneak your partner’s ring size. If you do plan on using this size for an engagement ring, try your best to choose a ring from a similarly sized finger. Also, if you’re unable to print a chart, Brilliant Earth will ship a ring sizer for free!
