Mentorship October 14, 2016
Even if you’ve met all your deadlines, returned every business email and exceeded those company milestones, you may have forgotten something in the office – Monday, October 17th is National Boss’s Day.
National Boss’s Day has been an established holiday for over five decades. In 1958, Patricia Bays Haroski registered the holiday when working for State Farm Insurance. While the holiday usually falls on October 16 – Haroski picked the date in honor of her father/boss’s birthday – it is observed on October 17 when the date falls on a weekend. After all, how can you honor your boss on your day off?
If you know your boss well, incorporating his or her unique character into the gift is a great touch. (Stopping at the gas station or convenience store on your way to work is a little impersonal.)
Forgot about the holiday? Don’t fret – ENTITY’s here to help. Here’s a list of thoughtful last-minute gifts to grab this weekend to give your boss for the holiday. (Bonus points: they’re all under $30!)
If your boss is a tech-savvy guy or gal, pick up a new gadget. You don’t need to splurge on Apple watch or Fitbit – why not order a triangle bluetooth speaker or wooden Apple Watch stand?
Envy your boss’s hip style? Consider some twinkle lights or Fujifilm Instax film. If he or she is digging the succulent trend, this ceramic planter will look great in the office!
If your boss always comes in at 9 a.m. with a coffee in hand, write him or her a thoughtful thank you note and add a gift card inside. Already stopping at Starbucks? Just pick up his or her coffee order on your way to the office to liven up the morning!
For the intellectual types, books are a great choice. If your boss is passionate about fashion or golf, check out The Little Black Book of Style or Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons to align the gift with his or her hobbies.
Bake a batch of cookies or bring in some homemade cupcakes. Making treats is more personal than picking up a container at Target – just make sure your business allows sharing food that’s not store bought!
If you’re not quite sure what your boss would appreciate, stick with the classics. Pick up some flowers or order some candy for sweet, gender-neutral options to make your boss feel appreciated and brighten up the workday!
