ENTITY Academy Summer Mentorship Program

While I sat in my Long Island bedroom anticipating the opportunity to finally write for a magazine, I certainly didn’t expect what I’ve experienced these last seven weeks at ENTITY Academy.  I expected to be immersed in a bustling culture of women who wanted to make a difference and really change the world. I expected to finally be able to have the support of a platform that focused on uplifting women and encouraged an open environment for growth and diversity.

Sadly, I was a bit off. But, while I didn’t get the immersing experience of becoming a writer and finding a publication I could call home, I gained something better, I found a sisterhood. I learned a few things about the online publication world but I thank ENTITY most for my girls. I’ve gained friends from all over the country with the same goals and ambitions.

Life long friendships.

Shelby was the very first person I met at ENTITY. She was with me until the very end. Always with the smiles and positive energy. Plus, herr article on curly hair was bomb. Nasira, the graphics girl! I should’ve known she was real from her namesake. She was so supportive and a warrior serving black girl magic effortlessly and without apology. Then, there’s Hesh. She was there for every moment. She was my east coast partner. She knew all my favorite songs. Not to mention how she’d bless me with some cool graphics. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for Hesh! Jasmine, the quiet storm! She’s funny and smart. She’d was my unofficial therapist, who also taught me how to use the espresso machine. This is only the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

And to Chrissie, Erin, Silvana, and Shahrazad, my internal mentors. You guys were the best! In our own special ways, you’ve each touched my heart, encouraged me to be great and share my talents with the world. I am eternally grateful for all the advice and all the laughs.

Remember, it’s never goodbye only see you later.
