How does he do it?
Is it the way he always looks pissed off? Or the way he spits his mad rhymes on those tracks? Whatever the case, something has helped Ice Cube’s net worth grow to a blazing amount of $140 million dollars.
Ice Cube, or O’shea Jackson, has built his empire on his music and movies. How, exactly? Well, we did some digging and found out for you.
Here’s how Ice Cube slid his way to the top with no vaseline.
Ice Cube’s scary faced stare had earned him a spot as a member of the political rap group N.W.A.
He was raised in South Central Los Angeles and experienced the drugs and violence that surrounded his neighborhood firsthand.
The environment left such an impression on him that he, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and DJ Yella came together to form N.W.A. On tracks such as “Fuck tha Police,” Cube expressed his animosity towards the authorities who were supposed to protect his neighborhood.
The group officially broke up in 1991, but their music has proven to have longevity. When the biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” featuring his real-life son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., came out in theaters, N.W.A.’s songs skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard charts.
How is this possible when the album came out in 1988?
Well, older songs are allowed to enter the charts as long as they are getting streamed and are selling like hot cakes. The group earned 14.6 million clicks per week.
For a while, Ice Cube and Eazy-E had serious beef. To express his discontent for the artist, Ice Cube did not simply write and an angry letter or phone Eazy-E to communicate the issues at hand. The rapper did as rappers do.
He ripped him to shreds in a song named “No Vaseline.” The song debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ice Cube first showed off his mad acting skills in “Boyz n the Hood.” His acting didn’t stop there, though. Ice Cube had found such a passion for the movies that he started writing and producing his own, such as “Friday.” The movie released in 1995, made $6 million dollars its opening weekend and held the no. 3 spot at the box office.
That was nothing compared to the box office gold he struck with “Straight Outta Compton,” though.
The biopic “Straight Outta Compton” earned $60 million dollars opening weekend. The movie depicts Cube in his N.W.A. days and the formation and falling out of the group.
Cube commented on the movie, saying that even if the movie hadn’t done well, he would’ve still been proud of it.
“Dream come true stuff, man. First, to get a movie made like ‘Straight Outta Compton’ is an incredible feat. To get it made at that quality,” he told Variety. “So just doing that, I would have been happy. If the studio tanked the marketing and we didn’t do so well, I’d be, like, ‘Yo, it’s still a dope movie.'”
