ENTITY reports on Jen Rozenbaum

Jen Rozenbaum, a boudoir photographer, is using photography to portray femininity in a new light. Rozenbaum helps women find their natural strength through exploring their womanhood.

“I’m trying to show the best of women. And for me that has nothing to do with sex whatsoever. My photography is not about sex. It might be sexy or have sensuality involved in it. But it’s not about sex. It’s about the woman,” Rozenbaum told Shutterbug.

In addition to helping women explore their femininity, Rozenbaum uses her photography to empower women.

Embracing Femininity

Rozenbaum created Jenerations, a New York-based boudoir photography studio. By creating the studio, Rozenbaum hoped to provide women a space to embrace themselves.

Even when women take that first initial step to schedule a boudoir shoot, they are still unsure what to expect of the experience or of themselves.

“Typically, they are pretty nervous. What I’m doing is allowing a woman a space to explore and embrace who she is, without any judgment, without any shame… As a result, she becomes confident and one might even say rebellious,” Rozenbaum told Shutterbug.

We live in a world that says you are only successful if you have masculine traits. Femininity is viewed as a weakness. Because of this, we see women embrace masculine ideals to fit in and be accepted.

However, Jen Rozenbaum is using that same femininity as a way to help women feel empowered, and to free them of the stereotypes that keep them prisoner.

Differences Are Beautiful

Rozenbaum also helps women see the beauty in their differences. Normally, people shun us for what makes us unique. We then become accustomed to thinking our unique factor is a curse.

We are not acknowledged as beautiful if we have too many curves or don’t look like the models in the magazines. If we don’t fit into the mold that society has created, then we believe we are unattractive. However, Rozenbaum is teaching women that this is not the case.

Rozenbaum used boudoir photography as a way to rediscover her own femininity, according to SLR Lounge.

“How am I supposed to raise a beautiful daughter to be a beautiful woman if I didn’t know how to do it myself?” Rozenbaum stated.

In July of last year, Rozenbaum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Courageously, she decided to fight the disease by having a bilateral mastectomy, she wrote in a blog post.

“I was worried about losing my sense of femininity. I have always struggled with body issues; ironically I always especially loved my breasts. How would I feel without them?” Rozenbaum wrote.

Despite losing her breasts, Rozenbaum explained how going through with the surgery was a testament of her strength.

Rozenbaum aims to create that same sense of strength and happiness in women who need to get back to knowing themselves.

But That’s Not All

Jen Rozenbaum is not only using her photography as a platform to help women embrace their femininity. She is also passionate about helping other women start their own photography businesses.

“I think my real goal is to help women create and live the lives they truly want,” Rozenbaum told The Phoblographer.

She even shares photography tips on her YouTube channel, such as prepping for a client or how to obtain a certain effect with a lens.

Rozenbaum also helps women of various professional backgrounds through her #ShamelesslyFeminine movement. The movement focuses on helping women feel confident and break past obstacles that may be holding them back, according to Huffington Post.

Rozenbaum is an inspiration for women of all backgrounds. Through her work, she is attempting to help other women find happiness in themselves and in their careers. She uses her own career as a testament to show the importance of perseverance in your career.

Her message to women is that we can achieve anything we set our minds to and we are beautiful despite what society might think.

Rozenbaum’s work shows us that women are powerful and that it’s okay if we don’t fit into the mold defined by society.

We shouldn’t let the ideals of society define who we are as women. We don’t have to fit an unrealistic ideal or appear more masculine to establish ourselves in the world.

Instead, we should embody our uniqueness and femininity.
