Do you know about Julia Carey? If that name doesn’t ring a bell, maybe I should ask instead: do you know if James Corden is married? James Corden found fame in the U.S. back in 2014 when he landed the job as host of “The Late Late Show.” Since then, he’s won multiple Emmy Awards, a Tony and has hosted the Grammy Awards.
One part of Corden’s life that hasn’t received enough coverage, though? His wife Julia Carey. Here are five reasons why you should love Julia Carey just as much as her husband!
So how did this pair come to be? You have mutual friend (and English actor) Dominic Cooper to thank. He introduced Corden to Carey in September of 2009. Corden had recently split with actress Sheridan Smith, and Carey reportedly helped him through his heartache.
Another reason the pair worked, according to Cooper? Because Carey worked in TV, she was able to “like Corden for who he is” instead of “thinking that it’s a big deal that James is a star.” Carey and Cooper officially tied the knot in January of 2015.
If you got in a name-dropping contest with Julia Carey, she’d definitely win. Their wedding featured a serenade from Snow Patrol’s lead singer, Gary Lightbody. Other famous names on their guest list included Lara Stone, Matt Smith, David Williams, and Jimmy Carr. And, of course, they run into plenty of famous faces on the red carpet.
Since the pair moved to the U.S. for Corden’s job at “The Late Late Show,” they’ve also reached out to the Beckhams. Corden and Carey reportedly wanted advice on raising kids in Los Angeles…because who better to ask than the Beckhams?
If you think that Corden is a one-man show, it’s time to change that mindset ASAP. In 2012, Corden won a Tony Award For Best Actor in a Play for his work in One Man, Two Guvnors. In his acceptance speech, he credited Carey for the win, saying: “My girlfriend Julia gave birth to our son five days before we started rehearsals…Seriously, I would not be holding this if it wasn’t for her. She made me say ‘us’ instead of ‘I’ and ‘we’ instead of ‘me’ and I love her. Thank you very much.”
In 2016, he praised his wife again when talking about the family’s relocation to the states for his job at “The Late Late Show.” “All credit to my wife, who agreed to move when our daughter was five weeks old and our son was three,” he explained. If you need to sum up Julia Carey in three words, “Corden’s secret weapon” is one good option.
Speaking of children, Carey and Corden have two: Max (born in 2011, prior to their marriage) and Carey (born in 2014). Corden has admitted that living far from extended family is hard, especially for their kids. In fact, his biggest worry is that his daughter “is not going to know life in Britain.”
However, Corden also says no children go to therapy because their dad “was around too much, giving me too many cuddles,” so the family seems to be doing just fine in America!
Julia Carey is much more than just James Corden’s wife and a loving mother, though. She has an impressive resume as an actress, reportedly acting in TV series like “A Bunch of Fives,” “Enemy at the Door,” “Within These Walls” and “Wings.” She also worked as a TV producer. Although not many details are given, many sites now label Julia Carey as a charity worker.
Like most celebrity wives, Julia Carey is often overshadowed by her husband, James Corden. However, in the James Julia duo, both partners are equally impressive. So the next time you hear someone ask, “Is James Corden married?” you can answer: “James Corden’s wife is Julia Carey…and she’s pretty awesome.”
Because any woman who can move across the continent, raise two kids, rub elbows with other celebrities and still have her own impressive resume definitely deserves some applause!
