Entity reports on whether Melania Trump has any friends

Melania Trump’s first challenge as First Lady will be to make some new friends.

The fact she has no girl squad in Washington will be a problem for her, believes veteran journalist Cokie Roberts.

During an appearance on “The View,” the ABC news commentator predicted “it’s going to be very hard” for Melania to adjust, adding she is “at a particular disadvantage because she does not have close friends in Washington.”

Making the challenge harder is the fact that Melania will go against First Lady tradition by not moving to Washington for the first few months of her husband’s presidency. Instead, she will reside in the Trump Tower in New York, at least until their 11-year-old son Barron finishes the school year in June.

She has made it clear that she will put her role as a mother first and foremost. Melania does seem very involved in her son’s life, having chose not to hire a nanny for Barron, and personally making school drop offs and  pick-ups just like any other Mom,  as she revealed to US Weekly.

As Melania’s priorities remain certain, it still begs one question as to whether or not she has any close girlfriends, especially with all her time and energy focused on her son. Her “Mom first” motto isn’t a bad thing, but we’ve never seen her out and about socializing with other women outside of the Trump-clan. This Washington-outsider must have a fabulous inner circle of socialites to depend on for support in New York, right?

Or perhaps not. She’s  exemplified an introverted nature after taking a backseat role during her husband’s entire campaign. As a child, Melania exhibited the same calm and quiet qualities while growing up in her small hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia.

She enjoyed setting aside time for herself away from the noisy neighborhood kids, to read and draw, childhood friend Diana Kosnar tells Univision in an interview. Kosnar says, “She needed her space.”

While Melania remains in New York, Trump’s daughter Ivanka could very well assume some of the traditional duties of First Lady since she’s already one of her father’s closest advisers. “She probably will play that hostess role at the White House, or at least until Melania arrives,” Cokie Roberts concluded back in December on her Morning Edition talk show for NPR.

Michelle Obama came in as a relative outsider in Washington politics as well; however, she has won a great deal of respect there. She’s proven herself through the many causes and charities that have received her support throughout the last eight years. She’s also raised major awareness for issues like children with diabetes, and advocating for higher education with the “Let Girls Learn” campaign.

And she’s done all this while raising two young daughters in the public eye. So if one outsider can do it, so can another.

Every woman needs to find their own way, and even though Melania may be lacking in the  girlfriend department,  she does have an opportunity to create a real impact in people’s lives, just like Michelle Obama has done.
