Entity explores whether Netflix-revived shows are hits or skips.

How did you feel when your favorite show was canceled? Probably heartbroken and not a little bit frustrated. Now, how would you feel if Netflix announced they were continuing the show with the original cast?

You might experience some mixed feelings and plenty of questions, including: Will the new season be good? Will the revival ruin the original? If the new season is good, will Netflix keep making it? Or will it – and your dreams – be canceled again?

There’s an old saying that history repeats itself. If you’re faced with these kind of questions, you should look at the revivals Netflix has made in the past … and how they’re doing now. Here are five famous – and infamous – Netflix’s show revivals with success rates that will tell you everything you need to know!

1 Fuller House

Original Air Dates: as “Full House,” 1987-1995

Revived on Netflix: 2016

Netflix-Users Average Rating: Five Stars

More than a decade after the original show was taken off the air, Netflix launched a whole new season of the popular sitcom that we all know and love – “Full House” – featuring most of the original cast. Although Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the duo behind the adorable Michelle Tanner, didn’t appear in the show, that didn’t stop them from making plenty of jokes.

The Mary-Kate and Ashley quips may have been the funniest part of the show, but seeing the old cast all grown up (and grown old) probably also made the top of the list. The first season of “Fuller House” felt awkward thanks to its attempts at making a kid’s show that also appeals to adults. For instance, many viewers may have wanted to mute the sexual innuendos that were paired with ridiculous storylines usually found in kids’ sitcoms.

However, the callbacks and references made original fans remember and see a spark of the old show’s silliness and heart in the new update.

Will It Be Renewed? Yes, expected 2017

2 Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Original Air Dates: as “Gilmore Girls,” 2000-2007

Revived on Netflix: Expected 2016

Netflix-Users Average Rating: 4.5 Stars (“Gilmore Girls” original show)

Even though many fans have mixed feelings about the last season of “Gilmore Girls,” no one can deny the excitement of hearing the show was going to be revived with all our favorites characters making an appearance. The Great Dean-Jess-Logan Debate is still hotly contested among hardcore and casual fans alike, but hopefully the revival will focus on other issues, as well.

Lauren Graham announced the new name for the show on “Ellen” and explained that it would consist of four episodes, one for each a season of the year. Not much information about the plot has been shared, but fans have been loving pictures of the old cast in the new, rebuilt set.

Will It Be Renewed? We’ll see how this season does, but so far only four episodes have been revived.

3 The Killing

Original Air Dates: 2011-2013

Revived on Netflix: 2014

Netflix-Users Average Rating: Five Stars

Otherwise known as ‘The Show That Never Dies,’ “The Killing” inspired plenty of outrage from fans after the season one finale didn’t resolve the storyline. AMC canceleled the show after season two, brought it back, and cancelled it again after season three. Fortunately, Netflix brought the show back for season four.

The seasons after the first were complicated but not confusing, leaving critics and fans with mixed feelings. Even so, “The Killing” remains a show that defied all odds and cancellations.

Will It Be Renewed? No.

4 Arrested Development

Original Air Dates: 2003-2007

Revived on Netflix: 2013

Netflix-Users Average Rating: Four Stars

The raunchiest, funniest, weirdest show out there got a Netflix revival … and the cult-like fanbase rejoiced. Although the original show that aired on Fox did not have the highest ratings, it won many awards. The new show operated a bit differently from the original – each complex episode of Netflix’s season four focused on a different character.

The revival has received mixed feelings and hasn’t quite lived up to the original. However, the entire original cast made an appearance, so if you’re a fan of nostalgia, you are sure to enjoy the revival.

Will It Be Renewed? Yes, expected 2017.

5 Longmire

Original Air Dates: 2012-2014

Revived on Netflix: 2015

Netflix-Users Average Rating: Five Stars

This crime drama offers a different kind of TV show than usually featured on Netflix. To put it simply, “Longmire” boasts one of those fresh, mystery and suspense storylines that leaves you wanting more. It avoids the usual awkwardness that comes with renewing shows on a different platform; the show is nearly identical as its original seasons and it picks up right where the original show’s last episode left off.

The Western genre may be played up, but this show is a refreshing throwback when compared to the technology-heavy thrillers common these days. Sometimes the classics are okay – and, in this case, even great.

Will It Be Renewed? Released September 23, 2016.
