From graphic tees to gummy bears, rosé is put in and on everything. This national trend is taking America by storm. Rosé has become the alcoholic drink of choice by many women for the steamy summer months. The real question is, how did millennials popularize this light pink drink?

History

BuzzFeed explains that this pink wine is not made by combining red and white grapes. It goes on to further explain that the longer the skin of a grape is left on, the darker the wine will be. Another interesting fact about rosé is that the more recent or the “newest vintage” of the wine, the fresher it will be.

The BuzzFeed article also states that rosé can be made anywhere and everywhere. No need to go to a fancy winery in France for this drink. This is because there is not one specific type of grape that rosé is made from.

According to Food and Wine, in the 1960s, world-renowned chef Julia Child made the drink ever more popular. One of the things she advocated was that “rosé can be served with anything.” In this way, Julia Child is suggesting that this wine is ever so versatile. From pot roast to pasta, rosé has got the meal covered.

Food and Wine also reports that in 2013, “the US import[ed] 4 million cases of Provençal rosé, 25 times more than in 2003.” It makes one wonder why there is such an uptick in interest. How did it suddenly become cool to buy and drink rosé?

Trendy Pink Drink

From the sayings “rosé all day” to “slay and rosé,” this drink is becoming trendier by the minute. Many people are desiring quotes likes these on anything from sparkly wine glasses to shift-fitting tank tops.

Rosé has also gained popularity in candy. Nowadays rosé can be infused into sweets. The high-end candy brand Sugarfina has also jumped on the rosé trend. Sugarfina sells various types of luxury candies. One of their most popular items are the Rosé All Day Bears. A small box of these gummy bears costs $8.50.

The chocolate brand Compartés has even put rosé into its fancy chocolate bars. People are eating it up. Literally. The bar itself is a beautiful light pink color. In addition to the bar, the packaging is one of the cutest aspects. It features a kaleidoscope design of old-time dancers and feathers.

Many tote bags also feature a rosé theme. Rhyming phrases are plastered on the front of carrying totes to show off the passion people have for the drink. They even make rosé towels, and to go along with the fun in the sun theme, there is a pool float in the shape of a rosé bottle.

Another interesting factor of this trend is the different forms this drink comes in. For example, it also comes in a frozen slushy form called frosé. Across the internet, there are tons of recipes for achieving this even more summer-y drink.

Perhaps everyone desires rosé simply because they like the idea of an effortlessly adorable drink. They want to drink something that can make them feel good–something that is not only cute but can also be dressed up or dressed down.

Rosé Brands

When it comes to rosé, there is something for everyone. With increasing popularity, there are even more options available to gulp up the millennial, pink-tinted drink.

One rosé brand is called “Gérard Bertrand Cote des Roses Languedoc Roséhttp.” One of the best things about this wine is the bottle it comes in.  At the base of the bottle, there is a delicate rose cut into the glass itself. This wine features fruity citrus notes like grapefruit in cacophony with the floral tastes. It is marketed as fresh and also full.

Another brand of rosé is called “Summer Water.” This brand is appropriately named, since this drink is mostly considered a summer delight. This particular brand is made by the same owners of “Yes Way Rosé.” According to their website, one of their goals is to create a wine that “symbolizes friendship, fun, and the best summertime vibes.”

“White Girl Rosé” is a comical twist on the ever so popular drink. Created by comedian Josh Ostrovsky, the company decided to create a rosé because it was a wine with very little culture behind it. This brand may seem like a gag gift, but the drink itself is becoming increasingly popular.

If you are looking for a light and fresh drink for the summer, maybe reach for a bottle of rosé. Grab a couple of friends and uncork fun this season.
