Entity explains how to show you have exceptional personal etiquette.

Personal etiquette is key at dinner parties, social outings or events. It’s always the little mannerisms that help you stand out as a self-aware, poised woman who is a great guest. You definitely don’t want to be the loud, obnoxious guest falling over and hogging the guacamole. While there is so much emphasis on how to be a good host, there is little placed on the art of being a great guest!

Here are 5 ways to show you have exceptional personal etiquette:

Ask if there is anything you can bring beforehand

Before arriving to a social event, always offer to bring something! Ask the host if they need anything, such as a fruit salad or an appetizer. Even if the host says no, they will greatly appreciate you reaching out to help.

Never Show Up Empty Handed

Even if the host does say no to you bringing something, if you are invited to a party or gathering of sorts, you should never show up empty-handed. Whether you bring flowers or a bottle of wine, arriving with something to contribute is key. When someone hosts you, they take a lot of time to prepare food and their home for your pleasure. Bringing something small with you is a token of your gratitude.

Offer to Help Out

When you are invited to a dinner or social gathering, offering your help to the host at any given point during the party will leave a generous impression on your host. It shows that you are willing to contribute to the night to help your host out. In addition, it shows politeness and willingness.

Write Handwritten Thank You Notes

Handwritten thank you notes that are sent via mail (yes, with a stamp and all!) sends a very personal and thoughtful tone to your thank you. Emails are quick and convenient, but they are just that – quick and convenient. Handwriting a note and taking the time to mail it shows emphasis and care towards your recipient. It also makes your host or your peer who gifted you extra special while showing that you take time for the little, important things.

Control your liquor

You never want to be the out-of-control, loud and sloppy intoxicated guest at the party! Of course, there is no harm in letting a little loose – and you should! But always be mindful of how much you have had to drink and whether or not you are adding or taking away from a good ambiance.
