It's about damn time.
At this point, we feel like Spoby has to be endgame just because everyone else who started together, ended together.
Hanna and Caleb got married, even with all the bumps in the road for their relationship. In the same vein, Aria and Ezra will be getting married although they’ve gone through monumental issues in their relationship. And lastly, Emily and Ali now have their own little romance going on (something that’s been there since the beginning). So, by rights, Spoby must be endgame! Right?
So, by rights, Spoby must be endgame! Right?
Spencer and Toby have always balanced each other. When she was calm and had everything together, Toby was emotional and sporadic. When the pressure to be perfect started making her crumble, Toby was her rock.
Now it’s time for their endgame to come to fruition.
We don’t doubt that Toby loved Yvonne. There is no way he would have ever turned Spencer down if he didn’t actually love her. However, I don’t believe Yvonne was the love of his life. That role was purely for Spencer Hastings and it probably always will be that way. An epic love like theirs never fades.
The finale shows having sex with Spencer must’ve shown Toby the light since finally gotten rid of that terrible wad of hair growing on his face. Now he’s back to being the fresh-shaven, angel-eyed Toby we’ve come to know and love. And instead of Spencer initiating something with him again, he’s the one who’s ready to try again with her.
Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this moment. I couldn’t believe it when Toby was denying the love he had for her, but now, he’s over it like the rest of us. The sneak peek below shows Toby bringing up the last word Spencer played on their scrabble game, “limerance.”
It’s an obvious Spencer-word because no one else would probably know what this word meant. But Toby looked it up. Looking deep into her eyes, they had one of their Spoby moments when he recited the definition: “Kind of unrequited love.”
I could’ve lived in the longing stare they shared after he said this. We all could’ve. Their love was palpable.
So now that the game will be ending and they’re both single, we hope they can have the happy ending the rest of the Liars have. Toby and Spencer surely deserve it. Spoby Season 7 has been a rocky ride. And since life has put them both through the ringer, they deserve to be at peace with one another.
