Introverts, Shy Female Celebrities

When you think of introverts, what kind of place do you picture them in?  Is it on the red carpet? How about an introvert selling out arenas or leading a social justice movement?  These are probably the last places you would imagine, right? Well there are a few #WomenThatDo despite their inward nature that may just surprise you.

The Encyclopedia Britannica defines introvert as “the typical introvert is shy, contemplative, and reserved and tends to have difficulty adjusting to social situations.” However, these exceptional women are defying those standards.

1 Christina Aguilera

ENTITY reports on four famous women who are introverts who became successful.

This five time Grammy winner, “The Voice” coach and vocal icon seems far from shy or socially conscious, but in an interview with Marie Claire, Aguilera speaks to her bashful nature. Aguilera shares that she has always been “intense and introverted.” Singer and songwriter Sia also told Marie Claire that Aguilera “is under the total misguided notion that she isn’t cool; she’s hyper-self-critical.” Sounds like our girl Christina suffers from self doubt just like the rest of us. However, Xtina has not let introversion rain on her parade. In fact, you can see her continue to slay in her upcoming tour titled “The Liberation Tour.”

2 Rosa Parks

Huffington Post acknowledges Rosa Parks as one of their 16 super successful introverts. Parks ignited the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott on the brink of the civil rights movement with an act of defiance against Jim Crow bus law that required Black men, women and children to take a backseat to their white counterparts. Parks firmly sat self-assured in her decision to fight for justice. According to Susan Cain’s book on Introverts , Friends and family described her personality as “soft spoken,” “sweet” and “timid.”

3 Jessica Chastain

How does a movie star viewed by millions on screen and on the red carpet remain shy? Chastain explained to Chelsea Handler on “Chelsea” that “[Being on a movie set] is less intimidating to me than social circumstancesThis weekend, I went to a party — it was Katy Perry’s party — and I was just like, ‘Why am I at this party? I’m not as cool as these people, and at some point they’re going to realize that I shouldn’t be here.’ But I feel like, on a film set, ‘OK, I have a reason to be here.’” Chastain always seems fierce and self assured on screen. So she’s clearly not letting her shyness hold her back.

4 Emma Watson

ENTITY reports on four famous women who overcame being introverts to become successful.

Hermoine Grainger, Emma Watson’s original role as a feminist, never let a boy tell her what she could and could not do. Hermoine knew what she was capable of and did it. Much like her “Harry Potter” character, Watson has never let a man silence her. Watson is extremely active in feminist initiatives such as “Time’s Up” and “U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador.” She was nominated by Vanity Fair as their 2014 “Feminist Celebrity of the Year.” Her message has been spoken to thousands of women worldwide, yet Watson seems to find comfort behind a good book.  “I’m kind of an introverted kind of person just by nature, it’s not like a conscious choice that I’m making necessarily. It’s genuinely who I am,” Watson said in a Rookie interview.

So it should go without saying but…

The women above are a true testament to what women can do. For all my introverted ladies out there, I hope this list serves as inspiration to go after your purpose.
