Ready to learn what makes Susie Hariet a worthy partner to your favorite Downton Abbey star? Here are five facts to know about Dan Stevens’ wife!
Ever dream of running into an actor and falling in love at first sight? That’s what happened with Stevens and Hariet. They met in 2006 when they were performing in different theaters in England. “I was getting my kit off every night at the Crucible doing The Romans in Britain, and she was appearing in a musical,” Stevens explains. “We met and it was pretty instant.”
Talk about a picture-perfect love story!
Of courses, Hariet is impressive for more reasons than being Dan Stevens’ wife. Besides working as a jazz singer, Hariet reportedly has experience as a singing teacher. She’s also appeared in three movies: “Forget Me Not” (2010), “The Dark Room” (2010) and “Worth” (2007).
Perhaps her most surprising accomplishment has to do with her husband: she helped create Stevens’ character for his role in “High Maintenance.” Because where better to look for inspiration than your creative wife?
Hariet and Stevens married in 2009 and have three children: Willow Stevens, Aubrey Stevens, and Eden Stevens. Hariet’s native country is South Africa, which the Dan Stevens family loves to visit. However, they lived in London until 2012, when New York became their new home.
According to Stevens: “We’re absolutely loving it. We’ve been enjoying the park and the museums. We took a trip on the Staten Island Ferry today to see, as my daughter calls it, the ‘Statue of Libertry.'”
Possibly thanks to Hariet’s own work in the entertainment industry, she reportedly understands Stevens’ job quite well. In 2011, Stevens shared that Hariet “is totally sympathetic to the actor’s life.” Later on, he further explained what he meant, saying, “I’ve been so lucky in that my wife has been incredibly understanding and supportive. Had that not been the case, things might not have been quite so easy.”
How old is Dan Stevens? He’s 34 years old, as of January 2017. Meanwhile, Hariet is seven years his senior at age 41. Obviously, though, their age difference hasn’t been an issue. Instead, they’ve focused on what they do have in common…like confusion at the traditional British class system.
“She has absolutely no concept of the British class system and, after 10 years here she’s still trying to work it out,” Stevens revealed in an interview. “I suppose it was refreshing to meet someone who had the same level of bemusement about it as me.”
Beyond shared bemusement, though, Stevens and Hariet seem to be an ideal match in their support of each other and love of performing arts. Sure, Downton Abbey may be over. However, we’ll never get tired of seeing Dan Stevens play the role of doting father and husband, with Susie Hariet by his side.
