Entity shares tips for success.

You’re a revolutionary. You have a vision. You know what the world is missing and you’re going to be the person to give it to us. Unfortunately, it takes a lot more than passion, drive, and even intelligence to save the world—all of that goes out the window if other people don’t trust, respect, and want to listen to what you have to say. Here are three ways to convince other people of your master dream.

Communicate effectively

There’s a whole skillset involved in being heard. Oprah Magazine interviewed John Gray, PhD, author of Why Mars and Venus Collide. Who suggested that those wishing to communicate more effectively should be careful they’re not coming across as know-it-alls.

One way to make sure your message is well received is to ask before you state it. Gray suggested phrases like, “would you like to hear my perspective?” Another technique is to try matching the speed that whomever you’re talking to talks at. If they’re a slow speaker and you’re rattling away like you’ve had ten cups of coffee, they’re unlikely to catch what you’re actually saying and could get overwhelmed.

Likewise, if you’re talking at sloth-like speed and speaking to one of those fast-talking-city-types, they’re likely to get bored and distracted. Don’t forget to listen to the opinions and feedback of others, this will increase their chances of returning the favor.

Show your confidence

Good leaders are decisive and confident about their decisions. Even if you’re not leading anyone yet, you’ll want to embody leadership presence, and confidence. Janie Sharritt, a vice president at Sara Lee Corp, told The Wall Street Journal that a makeover led to an increase of “executive presence,” and confidence for her.

Dressing like the successful, powerhouse, you are increases chances of people treating you with respect. Another way to showcase your confidence is knowing and owning what you’re good at, while also being able to recognize and address your weaknesses.

Embody the lifestyle of successful people

We know, it’s so cute and quirky that you’re five minutes late to everything, and that you can’t ever find your wallet or car keys. Being a bit disorganized isn’t a death sentence to success, but it’s important that you hide it well. People don’t often think scatterbrained when they think of qualities successful people have.

Start developing habits that are more typically associated with success. Get to work early, develop a morning routine, get a planner. The BBC even wrote an article about how faking it until you make it (unless you’re a brain surgeon or something) actually works. If you start acting like a successful person you’re bound to become one someday.

Now go out there, you can change the world, and now you know how to.
