ENTITY shares information on how to go to sleep

If you can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, I am very jealous. Many people suffer from sleep disorders and/or have a hard time falling asleep on a daily basis. I mean, I’m sure you’ve experienced being so tired, but still unable to fall asleep. Or not being tired at all, but still needing to go to sleep in order to wake up for an early day. The American Sleep Association reported that 50-70 million US adults have a sleeping disorder. And just this year, the Centers for Disease Control reported that a third of US adults get less than the recommended eight hours of sleep. That’s a lot of people.

With so many people finding it hard to fall asleep, many have sought after products and methods for an immediate and deep sleep.

Here are five extremely popular sleeping tricks that may help you get some Z’s.

1 Melatonin

Millions of people are trying to get their hands on melatonin, which is actually a hormone that is secreted by the pineal glands located in the brain. According to Consumers Report, the hormone, which can be easily bought over the counter in a number of stores, was in high demand by about 34 million Americans in 2016. A natural sleep aid, it has helped some to regulate their sleep cycle and have a more restful nights sleep. Although it has many benefits, it should be used with precaution.

Melatonin is found in some foods and therefore does not need approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Because of that, synthetic melatonin can be made without the proper regulations. So keep this in mind when seeking the hormone and make sure that you are double checking the appropriate dosage for you! You may actually be taking a dose that is too high for you. High dosages can actually  prevent you from a better nights sleep.

2 Acupressure

Many are seeking the alternative practice rooted from traditional Chinese medicine. Your body has a variety of acupressure points and when done accurately, they can be used for many therapeutic reasons. While you can go to a professional for acupressure, there are also many points and guides to safely administer self-acupressure. This method seems to be working. According to a Journal of Sleep Research study in 2017, 31 subjects were able to lower their Insomnia Severity Index and continued the practice after eight weeks.

3 Aromatherapy

Essential oil blends and diffusers are another popular method for people who want to know how to fall asleep fast. Many oils, such as ylang-ylang oil, lavender oil and vetiver oil, have sleeping benefits that people popularly use with diffusers or even topical creams. It seems that these oils, and many more, can actually be quite helpful for a restful sleep! In a study done by the Department of Psychology at Wesleyan University, the subject exposed to lavender oil prior to sleep was able to get a deeper sleep.

4 Marijuana

Many seek out weed when they have trouble falling asleep. It’s a bit more tricky than that, though. The THC that is responsible for the high feeling seems to help produce drowsiness. However, it may not be a long-term solution. A study carried out by Freiburg University Medical Center found that THC actually reduces REM sleep. Without getting the deep sleep you need, you can suffer in the long run.

5 Orthopedic Pillows

This one might sound like a no-brainer, but it seems to be the cause of a lot of sleepless nights. It really pays off to find the right pillow for you! According to a study by The Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine, there are many factors about your pillow that play into your sleep. They range from curve of the pillow to the shape and even to the temperature. Orthopedic pillows seem to a good choice, so maybe they will work for you!

So all in all, you really have to find the sleeping tricks that work for you. There is no one perfect solution for how to go to sleep, but hopefully, this has helped you with some of your options. Happy sleeping and sweet dreams!
