So, it’s happening. Your parents have booked the flights, you have all the wizard-like robes and stoles in order. You haven’t ironed your gown yet because you’re in denial, or you’ve decorated your cap to the nines cause you’re 4,000% ready to be DONE.

But there’s still that little rock in your shoe, that problem you can’t keep avoiding: what to do after graduation.

Either way, it’s going to be a huge transition. And the hard thing is, it’s not always up to you whether that transition is a good or a bad one. But this is *completely* natural, as well as the following 21 side effects of college graduation:

1. You’re not weird if you’re not SUPER excited about/on graduation day.

2. You’re not a failure if you temporarily move back to your parent’s place for a while.

3. Your appetite might go down or up, but either way you should listen to your body. It will be pretty clear about what it needs.

4. Not everyone has a job set up for them after school. Most people have no idea what to do after graduation.

5. You don’t have to marry anyone right away.

6. You don’t have to breakup with anyone right away.

7. You don’t have to start dating someone right away.

8. Graduation depression is real. Your life just lost most of its routine, and this total shift in lifestyle might bring about some unwelcome depressive symptoms. However, there are people who learned how to work through it. Click here to hear one woman’s story about beating the post-grad blues.

9. Downsize. Downsize. Downsize. Your life is so much easier when you have less stuff.

10. Invest in a wrinkle releaser. With all of the moving you’re about to do, your clothes are going to take a beating.

11. You’re not a failure if you’re not immediately eating fresh fruit and salad all day (especially if you did not eat healthy food at your campus cafeteria very much). If you’re wondering what to do after graduation, becoming a master chef overnight does not have to be one of the options. Your body is adjusting to a major change in diet. Gradually weaning off some the junk food will be a much easier way to integrate your body into eating healthy again.

12. If you know you don’t do well alone for long periods of time, make it a priority to live with roommates you know and love.

13. You have to try extra hard to be motivated on days where you don’t have to get up for class. It is three times harder to focus on anything productive on these days.

14. You will still have dreams about failing exams, being late for class, being naked in class, failing an exam after coming in late while you’re naked in class, etc.

15. When looking for housing, don’t risk your safety for a lower cost.

16. You may feel fatigued and restless at the same time. It’s basically restless leg syndrome but for your entire body. It’s a blast.

17. Some of your friends may be taking cross-country road trips or backpacking across Europe. That doesn’t mean you have to, and it doesn’t mean you don’t have friends if you don’t.

18. If you find your productivity failing, try getting ready in the morning as you usually would for school or work. That way you’re doing the “getting ready to actually do stuff today” routine that your brain is used to.

19. If you have any friends that graduated before you, call them up if you’re struggling with the transition.

20. Remember to let yourself rest. Resting and being lazy are completely different things. If you’re staying on your parents’ couch with no intention of looking for other jobs or opportunities, that would be considered lazy. However, if you’ve been applying for jobs non-stop for five hours, don’t feel guilty about decompressing with one of your favorite Netflix shows.

21. Trust your instincts. If you want to go on a crazy adventure and you have the funds, go for it. If your body and mind need rest, listen to it.

So if you’re ever stressed about what to do after graduation, just take deep breaths. You’ve gotten through at least four years of higher education, so you didn’t come unprepared for this transition. You’ve got this.
