Three years ago, Bravo TV’s “Southern Charm” made its debut. Soon, the name Whitney Sudler-Smith was abuzz.

The filmmaker and television director is the mastermind behind the show, which is getting ready to launch its fourth season. But why should you care about Whitney Sudler-Smith’s net worth, you ask?

Good question. Well, not only is he a primary character in the show, he’s also one of the producers. He wanted to make a show about a dramatic group of friends living in the south, where he’s from, and show the beauty of the area.

However, “Southern Charm” has received its fair share of criticism.

This comes as no surprise to the people that are familiar with the storyline of the show. It surrounds the social lives of its characters as they experience lust, betrayal and outrageous luxury. There’s even a lot of talk of the $2,000 wine that Whitney Sudler-Smith’s mother drinks.

But with a net worth of about $2 million, it’s not surprise he can afford wine that expensive. Here are three facts to try and explain who this filmmaker-actor is and how he can splurge so much.

1 He owns a 1966 Paul Newman Daytona Rolex.

Not just anyone can have one of these watches. “The Paul Newman Rolex Daytona is the most mythical and legendary timepiece in history,” according to Forbes writer Elizabeth Doerr. It’s unclear by his post whether or not the one in the photo was ever owned by the Paul Newman, but we could safely assume it’s an authentic watch belonging to the famous line.

However, these watches sell by the millions at auctions.

And that’s not the only sign of wealth on his Instagram. The filmmaker and actor regularly posts pictures of him traveling all over the world, eating at nice restaurants and attending fancy events.

2 He’s the son of a former Wall Street man.

Whitney Sudler-Smith’s mother Patricia Altschul married Arthur Goodhart Altschul in 1996. They were together until his death in 2002 when he was still working on Wall Street.

Arthur Goodhart Altschul was a Goldman Sachs Group partner and an executive at his private family office, Overbrook Management Corporation. So clearly he had some money.

3 Whitney Sudler-Smith is a filmmaker and producer.

It wasn’t long after he arrived in Los Angeles that he was already working on two small films. In 1996, Whitney Sudler Smith directed “Going for Baroque” and “Afternoon Delight.” Then, in 1998 he finished Indie film “Bubba and Ike,” which screened at the Austin Film Festival.

It was another four years or so before he wrote and directed another Indie film, “Torture TV.” Later in 2010, he made a documentary entitled “Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston.” The documentary told the story of fashion designer Roy Halston and features interviews with the likes of Liza Minelli and Billy Joel.

And of course, there’s “Southern Charm.” Working as creator, a main character and executive producer, Whitney Sudler-Smith has a prominent role on the set.

Still wondering what it is that drives people crazy? Maybe it’s the fact that he plays tennis? Or is a guitar-playing fanatic? Or maybe it has something to do with his personal bio page on Bravotv.com?

According to the webpage, Whitney Sudler-Smith likes to “bend time” in his spare time.

I’ll just let you try to make sense of that.
