There’s definitely no shortage of sustainable brands in 2017. From fashion, to food, to beauty products, sustainable brands are thriving everywhere. Why? Because brands are starting to realize that yes, it’s possible to sustainably source, create, and sell their products.  And at the same time, people are finally starting to care about Mother Earth. How timely of producers and consumers to be on the same page for once (sigh).

And guess what, women hold 85 percent of ALL consumer purchasing power. In other words our bucks bang hard. Literally, all markets of every kind would cease to exist without us.

That’s right. Who runs the world? GIRLS!

But two things come with our (very much deserved and well earned) immense purchasing power:  possibilities and responsibilities. Since we technically control 85 percent of of consumer purchases, it’s time for us to start making smarter choices. Enter sustainable brands.

Before ENTITY shares the top sustainable brands that you should start browsing (ASAP), we’d like to paint a picture of what the future could look like with the help of an environmentally-conscious army of sustainable brand consuming women. And yes, that’s a mouthful.

Here’s the news that paints the picture: Earlier this week The Qinghai Province, located in Northwest China, successfully ran on 100 percent renewable energy for an entire week straight. From June 17th to the 23rd, the province generated all of its power with clean energy sources such as hydro, solar, and wind power. And this province isn’t tiny, its population hovers around 6 million people.

What this community proved, according to local reports, is that fossil fuels will not be necessary in the future.

In an interview the General Manager of Qinghai Electric Power Corporation, Quan Shenming said, “Clean energy is the ultimate way. We need to reduce reliance on fossil fuel, improve our energy structure, and reduce carbon emissions.”

While we can’t exactly control the kinds of energy our communities use, we can band our purses, wallets, and bank accounts together to make change (pun not intended) in the consumer market.

So without further ado, here’s a list of  five purpose-optimizing, sustainable brands we should all start consuming.

1 Shop The Reformation For All Your Fashion Needs

As the Reformation puts it,

Being Naked Is The #1 Most Sustainable Option. We’re #2″

If going about your day nude isn’t your thing, we encourage you to go and geek out on The Reformation clothing. This sustainable brand uses ONLY sustainably sourced fabrics and incorporates green practices throughout their supply chain. For the environment, this means minimal damages. If you shop here you’ll be guilt free. You’ll also walk away with some high quality, eco-fashion pieces.

2 Shop the Conscious Collection at H&M

Every Piece Is Made From Sustainable Materials, Including BIONIC® – A Polyester Made Of Plastics Recycled From Shoreline Waste.”

It’s actually really depressing when you think about how wasteful the fashion industry is. How often do you go shopping? How much clothing do you have from a billion years ago that you never wear anymore? When you add up the amount of unused clothing across the globe, it’s tons and tons and TONS. Thirteen million tons to be exact. That breaks down to 85 percent of all purchased clothing in America. Trashed. In other words, that’s a shi(r)t ton of waste.

But sustainable brands like H&M are pushing hard to align the environment and business world.  You can be part of facilitating that symbiotic relationship by purchasing with a purpose. In this case, you’ll know that no materials were created in an environmentally harmful way or maybe even created at all.

4 Start Buying and Wearing Plastic

You heard it! Fair Harbor swimsuits are made with 11 plastic water bottles straight from the beach. Make the man, or woman, in your life a literal walking symbol of sustainability and buy these for your summer excursions.

Wow, I Can’t Believe How Soft These Are!”

That’s what Jessica Alba  said when she felt them for herself.  So go easy on the environment when it comes to spending your money. Soften the blows of wasteful production. Support sustainable brands like this one.

4 Switch Over to Products Certified by MADESAFE

Determined To Make The World Less Toxic.”

MADESAFE is the first and ONLY non-toxic certification company. They ensure that child care, personal care, household care, feminine care and sexual care items are all 100 percent toxin free. Switching to MADESAFE as your go to sustainable brand for everyday-use items means two things: your products are toxin free for both your body and the earth. It’s a win-win for you, and for Mother Nature.

Founder Amy Ziff has reached millions of parents and women already, through her “buy better” advocacy campaigns. Imagine if all women only shopped MADESAFE certified products? We’d shut down the wasteful, unsustainable, planet killing companies. Ohhhh yeah.

5 This isn’t a brand, but always buy Organic produce

The Solution, Of Course, Is To Go Organic, Both At Home And On The Farm.”

Fertilizer is a nasty thing. According to National Geographic some 40 pound bags of fertilizer contain amounts of petroleum equivalent to 2.5 gallons of gasoline. Others contain runoff sewage from water treatment plants. This is all not so great for the earth, or for you. Buy organic produce and support local, sustainable brand name farms. After all, “natural fertilizers promote the growth of beneficial bacteria, earthworms, and fungi that build soil structure and foster healthy plants.” Isn’t that what we all want?

The catch is ladies, that in order for us to really change consumerism, we need to come together.  Remember, we make up the majority of consumer purchases. That is HUGE. We must start using our money to demand an environmentally conscious shift in production.

The future of clean energy starts with us. If we support sustainable brands, sustainable brands will thrive. And if sustainable brands are thriving, they’ll have the ability to knock out their pollution competitors. Don’t think you purchasing one sustainable item doesn’t count. IT DOES. Especially if all women shop sustainable brands. Then, it really counts.

We can change the world.

So, let’s get on it.
