World Television Day History

This day is unlike many holidays that litter our calendar. Apparently, the UN set this day on Nov. 21 because on this exact date in 1996, the first World Television Forum was held. About 11 countries didn’t agree with this decision, most notably Germany.

According to the Session 51’s Verbatim Report of the United Nations General Assembly, Germany argued that there was no point in creating another holiday for media and communications when they already had three other similar holidays. They also argued that since many middle and lower class people around the world didn’t own TVs the people “could easily look at World Television Day as a rich man’s day.”

After this, they insisted a day celebrating the radio would be better suited for an addition to the world calendar. However, the vote went through anyway, and now we have a World Television Day that many can celebrate.

You might as well make the most of the day, right? Here are the best ’90s TV Shows You Should Watch.

If you intend to relax all your senses today, this might be one of the best shows to watch during World Television Day.

4. “Ren and Stimpy”

Although many people are obsessed with the “Ren and Stimpy: Adults Party Cartoon,” we’re telling you that the original show is just as good, if not better than the spinoff. This show has an odd sense of humor, similar to “Sausage Party.”

5. “Doug”

Join Doug Funnie and his interesting colored friends for a socially conscious cartoon about early adolescent life. There’s no linear story. It’s pretty episodic, but each story is wholesome and teaches a good lesson.

7. “Recess”

Hands-down one of the best series the ’90s put into existence. You’ll love every minute of the adventures T.J. Detweiler, Gus, Ashley Spinelli, Vince LaSalle and Gretchen Grundler get into. They spend most of their time in trouble, but these friends’ adventures represent everything we miss in our childhoods.

1. “Boy Meets World”

The amazingly conscious show, “Boy Meets World,” exemplifies why the ’90s created shows that today’s children completely miss out on. A large part of the main cast – Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and William Daniels – even made it to the spin-off that just ended on Disney Channel, “Girl Meets World.”

2. “Saved By the Bell”

We admit that the 2000s TV show, “Saved By the Bell: College Years,” was better than the original in many ways. However, “Saved By the Bell” will always have a place in our hearts as the high school drama that reigns over all high school dramas.

3. “Full House”

This is one mother show that remains way better than its spin off version, “Fuller House.” The “Full House” cast and episodes are everything you want in a kids show. However, with four cast members also slightly functional adults, the stories extend to more adult audiences as well.

4. “Sister, Sister”

“Sister, Sister” episodes gave life to Disney television for a very long time. Tia and Tamara Mowry acted as the perfect hearts of this series. A show predominantly about young black women and their struggles, it gave a voice to an otherwise underrepresented minority of the time.

Amanda Bynes started her illustrious career here. The young star basically acted as a one-woman show, and she killed every second. All things goofy and hilarious, “The Amanda Show” fulfilled every child’s dream for comedy.

7. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

It’s the best show to ever air on television. Hands down. It depicts the perfect mix of all genres. It’s action, sci-fi, drama, romance – you name it. Don’t argue with us, argue with Joss Whedon.

8. “Sex and the City”

5. “Seinfeld”

Most of “Seinfeld’s” claim to fame comes from the amazing actors that filled this show’s episodes. The “Seinfeld” cast includes the infamous Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander and Larry David.

6. “The Nanny”

The title of this show covers the premise. However, what it doesn’t cover is just how amazing Fran Drescher Charles Shaughnessy’s chemistry is on-screen. Not to mention, the other amazing characters in “The Nanny’s” cast include Madeline Zima, Nicholle Tom and Lauren Lane.

7. “Martin”

If “Martin” episodes don’t have you dying of laughter, you don’t know humor. With genuine stories and crazy good acting, this show will always go down as a classic.

All in all, after participating in World Productivity Day dang-near every day, you deserve this self-care. Don’t hesitate to take this day and relax it away.
