Yara Shahidi Instagram

Most people know Yara Shahidi as “that girl from ‘Black-Ish'”, but the model-turned-actor-and-activist has SO much more to say than words on a page. And we’ll admit we’re a little obsessed.

Not only is Shahidi kicking ass in Hollywood with her shows “Black-ish” and now “Grown-ish”. She’s also attending Harvard this fall (girl is smart), spearheading philanthropic endeavors, and using her social platforms for good.

For example, Shahidi’s Instagram — which boasts 2.1 million followers — is just one example of where she gets vocal. Her Insta is chock-full of woke posts you should have on your feed ASAP.

Like this one about the power of mentorship:

Shahidi often talks about learning from others, the power of mentors (we LOVE that) and “intergenerational support” among women. She even started her own mentoring club, Yara’s Club, in partnership with The Young Women’s Leadership School.

Or this one about police brutality in America:

Shahidi is clearly not afraid to speak her mind saying, “To not even have the guarantee of safety in our own spaces, our own homes, speaks to the *no longer quietly insidious* racism and blatant abuse of power in our criminal justice system.”

Or her posts on the power of Black Girl Magic:

Shahidi has frequently talked about loving her heritage, she’s half-Iranian and half-black, and loves celebrating women of color. As she told Essence, “Black girl magic for me, one, is just a way of expressing how fabulous women of color are.”

Then there’s this post about gun violence in America:

?Parkland?

In the wake of the Parkland shooting in Florida, Shahidi joined her fellow GenZ’ers and demanded change in America’s gun laws. On Twitter she wrote, “Lax Gun control Laws = violence

She’s all about supporting other women:

Shahidi often posts about “standing in the light” of her mentors. She often gives thanks to the women who helped her get where she is today.

And uses her platform to highlight the power of women “rising together”

Shahidi writes: “I love supporting movements & causes that help perpetuate the idea of rising together ⚡.”

She’s also been known to hang out with some other fierce women. Like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama:

Shahidi is passionate about public speaking and activism. She repped Gen Z at the Teen Vogue Summit, has given TedX Talks and is not afraid to speak her mind. No wonder she was named one of TIME Magazine’s annual 30 Most Influential Teens. Oh, and did we mention Michelle Obama wrote her college recommendation letter.

Her motto: Disrupt / remold / create

Disrupt / remold / create

And of course have some fun along the way:

We can’t wait to see what she posts next.
