With the “Zoo” show coming back to CBS, there has been a lot of attention on the hybrids and their role in the murder of the human race. You don’t have to worry about any “Zoo” season three spoilers here. The major focus will be on information already circling about the hybrids.

As you remember, the Shepherds were the ones who created the hybrids (the crazy ones and the regular ones). However, we have to ask ourselves — does this even help their mission? Hybrid Territory spells doom for everything, humans and animals alike.

The Hybrids and Their Purpose

The “Zoo” TV show cast members have been very careful not to leak many spoilers. However, in a recent interview between Billy Burke and TVLine, Burke told us that the hybrids, their new Den Mother Abigail and the Shepherds will have a large role in this new season.

As they explored in the last of the “Zoo” season 2 episodes, the hybrids are a mixed breed of animal that combine the traits of whoever their parent animals are. For example, if there is a jaguar and lion mix then the hybrid would have the jaguar’s speed and agility combined with the lion’s strength. As you can see, this leads to super-animals that are more vicious and dynamic than the animals we know now.

The Shepherds created hybrids to repopulate the earth after the human race was extinct and to (we’re assuming) help kill off the human stragglers. They were meant to save the animal community. Although this wasn’t explicitly stated last season, this information can be inferred based on their work with Dr. Oz and their motivations to save their furry friends.

However, sooner rather than later, the hybrids won’t be the saviors of the animal kingdom — but its destruction. As explained before, the hybrids are super-animals that are, generally, bigger with increased ferocity. Although this is mainly focused on the humans now, what will happen when they are gone?

The animals now are programmed to attack the humans, and now they serve as their food source. Even though we haven’t seen all of the hybrids, the ones we have seen have been carnivores. When there is no human flesh left, what will they eat? Each other.

This is where one problem lies. The hybrids will completely decimate the pure breed animals, because they are faster, smarter and stronger than their counterparts.

The other problem lies in the fact that most of the world already has roads, buildings, etc. covering most of the land. This spells danger for the omnivores and the herbivores. If the animal population booms, as the Shepherds wanted, what will they have to eat?

Yes, sooner or later, buildings and infrastructure crumbles, but the complete breakdown of brick, stone and cement takes decades! Will the animals have enough time to wait this process out while the carnivores get hungrier and hungrier?

It seems the Shepherds did not think this game plan through. Just like they didn’t think through the hypothetical situation, “What if our crazy hybrids somehow make it out of our enclosure and attack us all?” All that will be left of the animal kingdom will be the very few animals who will remain at the top of the food chain (we’re guessing the woolly-mammoth-rhinos.) Smooth move Shepherds. Smooth move.
