Four weeks have flown by incredibly fast. The ENTITY Academy Writer’s Collective not only introduced me to successful people in my chosen field, but it also taught me so much more. I’ve made new friends, new connections, and it has sparked new ideas in my mind.

But my absolute favorite thing? It taught me skills I didn’t even know I needed. And here they are.

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Oddly enough, this three worded phrase is on EVERY SINGLE job description. Why isn’t their a course for this in school you ask? That’s a great question. Luckily, the ENTITY Academy Writer’s Collective has got your back.

If you don’t know what this is, it’s okay because you will learn. But in short, it’s basically how to get your article noticed. Whether that is when people search for a keyword you used, or by getting your article to rank for the first and second page of google – you will literally learn it all.

I’ve learned so much about SEO that it’s not only going to help with my job applications, but it is going to help me personally. I have a blog and I had no idea the SEO tool even existed on WordPress. This skill is so helpful to anyone trying to get their name out there. Whether you are a blog, a small business, or anything, really. Everyone should know the basics of SEO.

2. Graphic Design

I genuinely thought this was only something someone could do if they studied it in school. I had no idea that I would be able to design something myself. This is an incredibly useful tool for anyone.

You can make collages for your articles, you can design a logo for a business, or you can just have fun with it if you like being creative. This actually ended up becoming one of my favorite parts of the entire program.

At ENTITY you learn that you are your own brand. Making a style guide on InDesign was such a useful tool for me to have. I have a blog, Instagram and YouTube and it can be difficult to keep them all cohesive. My style guide allowed me to realize what colors, fonts and images I gravitate towards. And from there I knew what look I wanted to go while building my brand. Who knows, maybe I’ll own my own business one day… I mean I already know what the aesthetic would be.

3. Social Media Packaging

Did you know that there is a technique to putting out Facebook and Instagram Ads? Well I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t.

There are so many different ways to package your ad. You can see what more people click on, take a positive route, take a funny route, or maybe a negative route. Play around with the photos, change your headlines and your descriptions. You get the idea – there is SO much to take into consideration when running an ad on social media.

One of my favorite projects that we worked on was actually a paid social media project. My group and I came up with a product, and came up with an entire presentation on how we were going to market it to the customers we were trying to reach.

These are all skills I can add on to my resume, and all the projects we’ve done will be turned into a portfolio that I can show in any future job interviews. These are all things that will set me aside from other applicants, and this could be you too!
