ENTITY explains why the library is your best friend.

Soon you’ll be heading back to school. A new term awaits you with all the promise of a fresh start and another chance to make the most of the college experience. Soon you will be moving into a new dorm room or off-campus apartment. You’ve signed up for classes, bought your textbooks and even set up an appointment with your adviser.

But if you’re the type of person that has avoided the library like the mall on Black Friday, you might want to learn why the library is your best friend. From comfy lounge chairs to free WiFi, what’s not to love?

1 PEACE AND QUIET

The library is quiet. You probably already knew this but the point can’t be stressed enough. When you desperately need to finish that term paper that’s due on Friday or the long list of problem sets that you may or may not have forgotten about, the library is your sanctuary.

2 FREE BOOKS

When you’re in college, it can be really easy to overlook free books. In the world outside academia, books are expensive and driving to the library can be a hassle. But in college, you have every resource you could possibly need right at your fingertips. As an added bonus, if for some reason your school’s library doesn’t have a book you need, you can request a copy to be sent to you from another library through inter-library loan. But be sure to reserve a book as soon as you need it because it might take up to a week or two to arrive.

3 ENDLESS RESOURCES

One of the most useful things about the library is the myriad of resources that are available to you as a student. Most campus libraries will have free DVD rentals, rows of desktop computers, study rooms and lounges and an information desk that can help you with all sorts of research tips and tricks.

4 LIBRARIAN HELP

Most librarians – especially those employed in academic settings – are highly-trained and are paid to assist you. Contrary to popular belief, librarians do a lot more than just stack and organize books. They can answer any and all of your research paper or essay questions. In addition, your library pays a heavy sum to subscribe to online search catalogs that have free access to online resources. This is probably the best and most efficient way to find sources for essays and term papers. If for no other reason, go to the library to save yourself time and hassle. Your 2 a.m. self will thank you the next time you have a paper due.
