Entity explores five of the best arts districts in America right now.

As a culture that is ever-evolving, it is no wonder that the U.S. art scene is becoming more vibrant than ever. A steadily diversifying country paves the way for creativity in multiple areas. But where exactly are the arts making the greatest impact at the moment? Here is a current list of the five most celebrated arts districts in America.

1 ATLANTA.

It’s not the size of Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill district, but rather the vibe of the town that draws so many visitors. Residing on a short stretch called Walker Street, it is an old community with some very deep roots. According to USA Today, it is “listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to artist lofts, more than 11 galleries and a variety of eateries. The area, the most complete warehouse district still surviving in the city, is also quite aesthetically pleasing, with many shops and lofts housed in early 20th-century warehouse buildings.”

2 BALTIMORE.

Just a short distance away from Mount Vernon, John Hopkins University, and Charles Village, Station North is the first neighborhood in Baltimore to become an arts and entertainment district. Eccentric in nature, this town is full of diverse people, architecture, arts and food. “The combination of residential and commercial area covers the bases with all manner of theaters, cafés, galleries, music venues, restaurants, and bars on offer. Many artist studios and residential lofts are housed in restored former industrial buildings and beautiful early 20th century row homes,” says USA Today.

3 CLEVELAND.

Known for the Cleveland Museum of Art, Severance Hall, and the Cleveland Institute of Art, University Circle sits just four miles away from downtown Cleveland. The area is home to more than 20 cultural and artistic venues according to USA Today and is one of the most concentrated areas of arts in the nation. Its other attractions include the Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society.

4 SAN DIEGO.

Known for its sandy beaches and laid-back atmosphere, San Diego is already a popular destination for many vacationers. It turns out that its art scene is a gem as well—the Mediterranean-esque seaside village of La Jolla is one of the most vivid art districts. According to USA Today, “Highlights include Thumbprint and their urban art movement based on outsider art, street art, and graffiti.” Taking a stroll along the coastline reveals the “Murals of La Jolla,” an idea manifested in 2010, which highlights over a dozen artists who have turned the area into an inspirational outdoor art gallery.

5 MILWAUKEE.

Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward seems to have it all, as it features a collection of art galleries, elite boutiques, antique shops, theaters and specialty stores. All of these can be found along the Milwaukee River, a six-block stretch located to the south of downtown. The district’s official website writes, “From its early beginnings to today’s community, enhanced by its historic ambiance and significant architecture, the Historic Third Ward has experienced a renaissance as a revitalized mixed-use neighborhood.” Due to its rising success, it is no wonder that visitors are beginning to compare the diverse area to New York’s SoHo.

Though these five lively arts districts made it to ENTITY’s list, many more creative hubs are on the rise across the country. For more information on equally active art centers across the United States, check out USA Today’s 10 Best: Readers’ Choice 2016.
