Entity explores original ways to display your wardrobe in the living room.

If you’re stuck in a tiny studio apartment – or you’re obsessed with the whole “starving artist living in New York” aesthetic – then discovering new ways to organize your belongings in a small space is imperative. Unfortunately, no matter how many pictures you see on Tumblr, you never get that authentic studio look just right. We’ve got a few solutions that may lead you down the primrose path to apartment perfection.

Studio apartments are meant to have open floor plans and, for the most part, a little bit of a shoebox feel, which has inspired the hashtag #smallapartmentproblems on Twitter.

One decor choice that’s becoming more and more popular is to move your wardrobe out of the confines of your closet and use it as a design piece. Here are a couple ways to free your clothes from the closet and display them as an art installation.

A clothing rack is a super functional and easy way to transition your wardrobe from closet to living room. A metal rack will have a more minimalist industrial feel, while a wood one will be a little more rustic and bohemian. If you find one with a shelf at the bottom, you can display shoes or books along with the clothes.

If you’re feeling crafty, you can create a free-hanging pole for your living room. There are tons of different ways to go about it, so choose one that best fits the layout of your room. 3 Trunk

Hit up your local flea market or antique store and find a trunk to install in your living room. Always keep in mind that you can reupholster the interior to suit your tastes. A trunk is versatile because it can also be used as an ottoman or coffee table depending on the day.

4 Wardrobe

Setting up a small wardrobe or installing shelves at various heights in your living room is another way to display and store clothing in your living room. Display your crisply folded cream sweaters and soft tan leather boots for a nice contrast.

5 Belly Baskets

Though you could use any sort of woven or wicker basket for the same purpose, there’s something about belly baskets that we just love. Whether you’re piling them high with maroon knits or just using them to store your extensive scarf collection, belly baskets are a perfect means of storage to add to your living room.

Always keep in mind that each clothing vignette has to have a cohesive aesthetic.  Every choice should be intentional — the same way you’d choose an art piece to go on your wall, the color scheme of what you display should go with the overall vibe of the room. Mixing neon tank tops with your minimalist muted color business attire will seem more like a garage sale than an installation. (That is, unless color pop is your theme.)

Stay mindful of what you’re displaying and remember the old adage, “less is more.”  Your newfound living room display can easily become the pièce de résistance of your studio aesthetic.
