The DivaCup holds up to one ounce (around 28 grams) of liquid, approximately five times the amount of liquid that a normal tampon can hold. The cup fits inside perfectly as a suction, so there are no leaks throughout the day or evening. Also, you can comfortably use the bathroom without taking it out.
Francine Chambers, the president and co-founder of the DivaCup, is tired of the way our society views menstruation; she wanted a feminine hygiene product that was comfortable, sanitary and sustainable. Chambers hoped that a product like this would inspire women to not be ashamed of their periods.
When using a menstrual cup, you have to become a bit more personal and in tune with your body, thus allowing you to learn a great deal about your period. Seeing how natural, easy and hygienic a period can be is how DivaCup wishes to empower women. A period, after all, is a sign that women are healthy and fertile.
