Getting to know the woman behind Hannah Baker.
We all know Katherine Langford from the controversial Netflix series “13 Reasons Why.”
But most of us just know about her character Hannah Baker, as most American viewers had not seen her work before the show’s release. So what don’t we know from the bio of our new favorite Australian actress?
The actress had to depend on a stellar wi-fi connection for her “13 Reasons Why” audition. Think Dev’s super embarrassing sci-fi audition in the first season of “Master of None.” Of course, he ended up having to do his in a cafe, so let’s hope Katherine’s was slightly less mortifying.
Though clearly the Aussie star made a much better impression, seeing as she managed to snag the starring role in the controversial Netflix hit. And it was quite the quick process. According to UselessDaily, she only had ten days after landing the role to get her American work Visa. Talk about stressful!
Before Katherine reached the height of her acting career, she was excellent at competitive swimming. According to Aol.com, Katherine was a nationally-ranked swimmer at her high school in Australia. Sounds like Katherine is just great at everything she does!
At first, Katherine wanted to keep her social media accounts private. She didn’t want the amount of followers she had to increase her chances of getting roles, for she wanted to be hired purely for her skill as an actress.
However, Selena convinced Katherine that Instagram would be a great place to engage in conversation with her fans, especially since her show targets the millennial age bracket. Selena is famous for connecting with her many fans on Instagram – 123 million to be exact – and so it’s no surprise that she’s the most-followed person on the popular social networking app.
In a Q & A on Young Hollywood’s Youtube Channel, Katherine Langford admitted that she had a crush on Orlando Bloom as Legolas in “The Lord of the Rings” from a very young age. “I was six years old and I was like… you.”
This response starkly contrasted that of her co-star, Dylan Minnett, who admitted that he didn’t have a celebrity crush in high school at all.
According to Seventeen Magazine, Katherine stars alongside Jennifer Garner in “Simon vs. The Homo Sapien Agenda,” a film about a high school student coming out as gay. The film, which is based on the award-winning novel by Becky Albertalli, is set for release in early 2018.
So Katherine Langford is essentially one of Hollywood’s youngest renaissance women. And at the young age of 21, she still has a bright future ahead of her, both onscreen and off.
