Entity speaks Shawn Johnson

Shawn Johnson is an Olympic gold medalist, entrepreneur and overall a bad-ass female. Basically, the girl is a rockstar and proof that big things come in small packages.

We love her here at ENTITY, but we want you to feel the same way. So, we’ve compiled a list of five things you need to know about the lovely and hilarious Shawn Johnson.

1 First and foremost, she s a killer athlete.

She started her career at 12, but was introduced to gymnastics when she was just three years old. And she worked so hard that in just her first year as a senior gymnast, Johnson was awarded four different prestigious metals. She won the American Cup, Pan American Game, World Championships, and U.S. Championships.

Then in 2009, Johnson won the Sullivan Award (aka the “Oscar” of sports awards). In that same year, she won the ESPY award for Best Female Olympian. Just another thing to add to her four Olympic medals.

On top of all that, she’s also been named the All-Around World Champion three times. We really could go on.

After tearing her ACL in a skiing accident in 2008, however, she unfortunately couldn’t compete again. But don’t worry Shawn, we love you!

2 Off the balance beam, she s a star on camera too.

Though Shawn Johnson is mainly known as an Olympic goddess, she is actually been on various reality TV shows as well. In 2009, she won “Dancing with the Stars” and blew us away with her moves. Her artistry in gymnastics definitely translates onto the dance floor.

And before that, Johnson even starred in five episodes of the “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2004. Despite the short run, her skills as a businesswoman shined in the challenges. The money she raised from the “Apprentice” was donated to the youth development program, Character Counts.

Simply put, Shawn Johnson is a woman of many talents.

3 She has a huge heart.

Johnson accompanied her boyfriend and a few select friends on a mission’s trip to Mexico. They built a home in Tijuana with the nonprofit “Hope Sports.”

Johnson also runs a branch of the “Kids Wish Network,” to connect children with disabilities to influential gymnasts. In 2012, she wrote the best-selling book to share her experience and advice with others. The book is titled, “Winning Balance: What I’ve Learned So Far About Love, Faith and Following Your Dreams.”

On top of that, Johnson co-founded “The Body Department” website as a safe space for people to discuss fitness and body image.

Johnson is also involved in a number of children’s and animal-related charities. She is a prominent advocate for youth programs and student development. And she works with cancer charities that specifically help women and children. In 2009, she hosted the Nike and Sports Authority’s 5K and Fun Run which raised $5 million for cancer charities.

4 She absolutely loves adventure.

While Shawn Johnson is a small-town girl from Iowa, she has always had bigger dreams for herself.

After meeting her current husband, Andrew, in Nashville, TN she decided to pick up and move. Since then, the couple has traveled and camped around the Southwest.

During one of their trips, they attempted to hike the entire Grand Canyon in just one day. You can find her hilarious take of the regretful ordeal on her blog. She hiked/biked up the Kintimani Volcano in Bali, which was no small task!

5 She flaunts both her sporty and girly side.

It’s clear in Shawn Johnson’s fantastic “Glamping” tutorial that she’s multidimensional.

She’s not a girly-girl or a tomboy – she’s both. Flip through her Instagram and you can find it all. You can catch Shawn Johnson make-up free and kicking ass as an athlete or working it in platform heels. She’s a symbol of how it’s possible to be strong and feminine in one fabulous package.

She  is a philanthropist, businesswoman, athlete and an all-around incredible role model for young women. Here’s a shout-out to Shawn Johnson for teaching us ladies that if we are fearless, then we are unstoppable.

Girl, keep shining like you do!
