Shirin Ebadi

Shirin Ebadi, an Iranian lawyer and former judge, founded the Defender of Human Rights Center in Iran and co-founded of the Nobel Women’s Initiative. Ebadi received the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions as a human rights activist. She’s recognized by her work with women, children and refugees. After studying at the Faculty of Law in 1965, she became one of the first female judges to serve in 1969. This eventually lead to her prominent title as the Chief Justice. The Islamic Revolution prevented her from continuing working as a judge, and she went on to obtain her lawyer’s license. She took on many controversial cases that resulted in multiple arrests, but she always prevailed. And not once has she ever given up her fight for basic human rights.

Ebadi’s quote offers wise perspective, which we can all benefit by following in her example and learning from her actions. It stresses that we can all make changes, and these changes begin at home. We commend her sacrifice and hard work to make the world a better place. Remember to be the change you want to see in the world, and you’ll start to see it happen. That’s exactly what Ebadi has done, so let’s follow in her footsteps.
