Whether you have just woken up or are in need of a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, you have probably recognized how the scent of coffee preps you for the rest of the day. But did you know that the scents of beautiful flowers and healthy herbs can also affect your mood?

In fact, a huge variety of essential oils are known for their varying physiological effects. Whether you need a little boost of confidence before a presentation or a natural way to improve your focus, essential oils could be the cure-all to your daily maladies. Here are some of ENTITY’s favorite scents and their beneficial properties.

1 Rose

On top of their physical beauty, roses have many beneficial physiological effects. The scent of a rose can boost creativity, act as an aphrodisiac and increase happiness. This makes it the perfect scent to try when you’re having artist’s block or trying to woo your significant other. On top of that, Huffington Post references a study that shows that rose oil positively affects signs of depression. Unfortunately, unless you’re living in Versailles, you’re probably not constantly surrounded by bulbs and blooms. So to get your floral fix, a small vial of rose oil can be used as perfume or added to a humidifier to get the same effect!

2 Peppermint

When you’re in the home stretch of the semester and finals are fast approaching, peppermint oil could become your new best friend. Its benefits, which include improving alertness and memory, make it the perfect pick-me-up during a long night of studying. (Or that super long lecture on Monday morning.) Studies by the Avicenna Journal of Phytomedicine have shown that physical performance level is improved when peppermint is taken orally, so using a little before a big game or leg day might do you some good as well.

3 Chamomile

Chamomile has been used medicinally since ancient times, and its benefits are still acknowledged today. Often recognized in tea form, chamomile has calming and peaceful properties. It’s known to create an overall stronger feeling of contentedness in its users.

4 Rosemary

If you live nearby a rosemary bush, you’d better stock up for a rainy day. Not only is this herb great on chicken, but it also has many aromatic properties. Rosemary is known for increasing concentration and alertness. Place a sprig or two around the room the next time you need to put together some IKEA furniture (reading those hieroglyphic directions is definitely going to take some concentration).

5 Lavender

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, research has proven that lavender is calming when inhaled. It is known to improve contentment, performance, restfulness and self-image. Sounds like the perfect scent to start (or end) a great day.

6 Ylang-Ylang

Ylang-ylang is the perfect first date aroma. Not only is it an aphrodisiac, but it also promotes contentment and assertiveness. That means you can woo your date without letting him or her get away with any funny business.

7 Jasmine

Jasmine is the must-have scent for a feel-good life. It promotes confidence, creativity, happiness, performance, self-awareness, self-esteem and self-image. Everyone could use a little douse of this miracle feel-good oil every once in awhile.

These essentials oils will be perfect additions to your life, improving your mood and improving happiness, confidence and creativity. Start by grabbing a small bottle of each to make a world of difference in your daily life.
