Entity shares why the denim jacket will always been an American fashion favorite.

Have you found yourself hankering for some true American blue lately? You don’t know what’s come over you, but your arms suddenly feel cold. For some reason, the only cure for this random affliction is a healthy dose of denim and that’s completely understandable. The re-emergence of the jean jacket is hitting the fashion world hard and strong. Every woman is on the hunt for the perfect jean jacket.

Tori Telfer of Bustle attributes the creation of the jean jacket to the one and only Levi Strauss, who produced the “working blouse” around 1874. Though this creation was not yet the full-fledged jean jacket we know today, the piece evolved into the modern version over a number of years. After the working blouse, the Levi “Type I” jean jacket was designed and debuted around 1905. As the jacket matured, it gained both pockets and popularity. What was once considered part of a work uniform for cowboys and railroad workers became sensationalized by socialites and celebrities alike.

Icons such as Elvis Presley, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe all sported denim jackets, epitomizing casual Western wear. Rebellious teens of the ’50s took on the jean jacket as their own nonconformist uniform. Later on, stars such as Madonna personalized their jean jackets, bringing a flare that made their flirty outerwear stand out from the rest!

Feeling inspired to grab some denim of your own? Here are 10 reasons why you should totally own a jean jacket.

1 DENIM NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.

As is apparent with the long history of denim jackets, they never go out of style! Buying the perfect jean jacket today means you’ll have it for the rest of your life. We can’t wait to see cute little grannies reppin’ their ’90s duds in the future.

2 DENIM IS SUPER-DURABLE.

Denim in itself is a super-durable fabric. As a testament to this fact, some denim pieces have truly held up to the test of time. An article by Elisabeth Nardi and Linda Butler in the Daily Herald spoke about a pair of miners who found an old Levi’s jacket from 1874. Forget vintage – that jacket is a piece of history! By the time the article was published, Levi had paid $47,000 for a pair of jeans from the 1880s. (Maybe you wouldn’t let go of your favorite pair of jeans for all the money in the world, but you might feel differently after a century or two.)

3 DENIM ON DENIM IS IN STYLE.

Celebrities everywhere are rocking denim on denim on the daily. Grab your favorite pair of jeans and work that Canadian tuxedo. Unzipped, the Levi Strauss blog, highlights how big name stars such as John Wayne and Bing Crosby were notorious for wearing Canadian tuxedos. Perhaps that’s where fashion savvy women such as Gigi Hadid, Gwen Stefani and Rihanna got their inspiration from.

4 DENIM CAN BE DRESSED UP OR DOWN.

You can pair a jean jacket with a simple t-shirt as easily as you can with a formal dress. No matter the occasion, your jean jacket is the perfect layering piece to keep you cozy and polished.

5 DENIM CAN BE PERSONALIZED TO SHOW OFF YOUR INDIVIDUAL STYLE.

Denim is the perfect base for your collection of pins and patches. Personalize, embellish and embroider the heck out of your jean jacket. Get crafty and let your fashion choices become extensions of your personality.

6 DENIM WILL LOOK GOOD IN ANY SIZE.

Jean jackets are so versatile that you can literally toss aside worries about size when you’re looking for one. Did you find the perfect jacket, but it looks a little bigger than what you usually wear? Perfect! The boyfriend trucker style jacket is totally in! A bigger jacket is a little more casual, a little more grungy and a lot more stylish.

7 DENIM IS WEARABLE DURING ALL SEASONS.

Unlike kimonos or wool coats, a jean jacket transcends the seasons! It’s just light enough to wear on those breezy summer nights but thick enough to layer in winter months. If you don’t want to put in the extra work of making it functional for the season, there are plenty of preconditioned jackets. Grab a cropped jacket for warmer weather or a flannel-lined jacket for some real protection against the cold.

8 DENIM IS NEUTRAL AND BASIC.

Like a pair of black pants, denim is both neutral and basic. Since it pairs with so many fabrics, you’re sure to get your money’s worth from a jean jacket. Go minimalist or deck it out in embellishments; either will look great!

9 DENIM COMES IN A VARIETY OF STYLES.

No matter your body style or taste, there’s a jean jacket for you. The huge range of silhouettes and washes means you’ll never be at a loss when you’re searching for your perfect denim match.

Ready to grab a jean jacket of your own? Go for it, girl! Invest in a piece that will upgrade your outfits for years to come. Whether you opt for the androgynous trucker style or a cropped jacket decked out in sequins, you’ll be turning heads (just as the #WomenWhoDo tend to do).
