This is our time, ladies.

You might call your early childhood years your most formative years. These are the years you begin to develop character formation, habits, and traits that you carry with you for the rest of your life.

However, Alessandra Conti disagrees. Conti is a celebrity matchmaker and Co-Founder of Matchmakers In The City, and she specializes in high-profile celebrity matches. With seven years of matchmaking experience, she has become an expert in all things interpersonal relationships and body language.

Alessandra Conti boldly proclaims that your twenties are actually the most formative years of your life. You hear that, ladies? If you are in your twenties and you are reading this, you’re probably just graduating, trying to find a “big girl job” or maybe you’re even trying to start your own business like Alessandra. Wherever you may be at this time of your life; confused, scared or lost— I promise, you’re not alone.

These are the years where you have to make some of the most important decisions in your life and sometimes you just need a little guidance. Well, Alessandra is here to tell you that it’s okay to take time to focus on yourself and truly figure out who you are.  As you enter your twenties, you will begin to understand yourselves a whole lot better than you did five years ago. You will figure out what you want out of life and what makes you happy. One of the greatest parts about this point of your lives is being able to embark on this new journey of self-discovery and success.

Alessandra’s Advice

ENTITY Academy 2019 Mentees, a group of young women in their twenties learning to be leaders, were asked to do an exercise instructed by Alessandra, where she had us ask ourselves four questions in order to discern our professional direction:

  • What are my natural talents?
  • What do I actually enjoy doing?
  • What do I love reading, watching, learning about?
  • What is a need in society that I could help fix?

By asking yourselves these questions you will not only start to think about the things that come naturally to you but also the things that matter the most. Taking the time to figure out your natural talents, your likes and dislikes; you can slowly begin to create what you love which will result in loving what you create.

Once you figure out what you love, take the time to figure out your why. As you grow older, you begin to crave clarity and it will more than likely start from a place of confusion. Alessandra argues this is completely normal. Most adults are still asking themselves what they really want to do with their lives. Although it’s never too late to steer your life in the right direction, starting young will make your life easier and more enjoyable in the long run.

Living Happy in Your Twenties

As a follow-up exercise, Alessandra had the ENTITY mentees form groups. As we’re sitting with our groups, she had each of us share our wildest ambitions. We soon began to realize that some of us had similar interests in career paths. This resulted in “matchmaking” a.k.a. networking. We all seemed to have a friend, a coworker or an old boss who can potentially give us an “in” into the field we were interested in.

Alessandra’s non-romantic matchmaking helped us expand our network that we didn’t even know we had. She emphasized the importance of building actual connections. Expanding our network at a young age gives us an even stronger network as we grow older. She goes on to say, “Get out and meet people who are doing the same thing you want to do; go to events, go to parties, put yourself out there!”

Your network is your net worth
