Inauguration or Abomination? America Reacts to President Trump

Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, but much of America doesn’t seem ready to welcome him into office.

Multiple inauguration protests have erupted in Washington D.C. with demonstrators throwing rocks and bottles at the police and destroying properties of multiple businesses.

But while some are spending the day armed with crowbars and hammers, others are storming social media as the reality of Hillary Clinton’s defeat finally sinks in and the Trump era begins.

Today, for me, is not an #Inauguration.

Today is an abomination.

Never. my. president.

And although Clinton attended the ceremony and the formal lunch which followed, her supporters argue that it should’ve been Clinton getting sworn in today.

Celebrities have also taken to Twitter to express their mixed emotions about Trump’s America. Like much of the nation, many of them are nostalgic about Obama’s historical presidency.

Katy Perry, on the other hand, expressed more interest for the upcoming Women’s March on Washington than the inauguration. She, along with thousands of other women are using this tumultuous time to stand together in what is set to be one of the largest protests of the nation.

They are channeling Hillary Clinton’s message from her concession speech to “never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it.”

Meanwhile, much of the praise is being directed towards the 16-year-old former “America’s Got Talent” star Jackie Evancho who sang the national anthem for Trump’s inauguration.

Despite the backlash she’s received for agreeing to perform, Evancho exhibited a great deal of maturity, telling CNN, “[Fans] are upset for the wrong reasons. I’m not involved in politics. I’m doing this because it’s a privilege and an honor to perform for my country … it’s sad.”

So as the nation continues to find ways to grapple with the reality of a Trump administration, at least one thing is for sure: women are standing together because now, more than ever, is the time to be united.
