For people considering the Entity mentorship program or following the magazine as a platform, it’s important to know the benefits of working here. There’s a speaker series, excursions and opportunities. But they’re not the best things about Entity.

The real benefit of working at Entity may come as a surprise.

It’s not the excursions or the bonus workshops. (Though I enjoyed boxing and Krav Maga immensely.) Not even when CEOs come in to speak at Entity. The knowledge that they impart provides an interesting insight. But it’s difficult to relate fully to individuals on such a lofty plain.

You get to get in on the ground floor of something. And that experience is beneficial no matter what that something is. Entity provides you with the unique opportunity to observe as a company and brand begin to come into their own.

And whether you’re considering starting a brand or working for one, that’s good experience. You’ll glean pertinent information regarding the machinations of media, which is helpful for any individual working towards a career in that field. But that’s not the benefit I’m talking about either.

If you’re reading this, chances are you may be considering this program.

And while the excursions and the speakers may be what attracts you, anything’s excitement can only last so long under what may seem like days full of work. The most exciting article can feel tedious when it’s your 60th one. The practice is the worthy thing there, bolstering a willingness to make your opinions known.

That’s not what’s going to keep you here. It’s not what should keep you here. If you’re proactive and resourceful, you’ll find ways to educate yourself and refine your craft. But there’s one thing to get at Entity that you simply will not be able to find anywhere else. The people.

Sure, your cohort of fellow mentees won’t be the same as mine (and for that I apologize). They’ll still be great though. Entity has this inexplicable ability to attract talented, fun people. The people experiencing the mentorship program alongside you will be just as lovely.

You can’t guarantee that. Okay, I hear you. You’re right.

I cannot say with absolute, unequivocal certainty that your fellow mentees will be great. Entity could bring in a pack of wolves and release them into the office. But you can find reassurance in the fact that Entity’s staff is doing the picking. And good people come to good people.

The staff at Entity are very kind and willing to answer any and all questions to the best of their ability. They own what they’re good at as well as what they’re not. Atmosphere in the workplace is not competitive, it’s supportive. Kayla always edits my articles with a mind for my voice.

Kayla, Taryn, Chrissie, Angelica, Erin, Justine, Patrick, Haoran, and Charlie are all dedicated to their jobs. And to the program. If there’s anything this program is worth, it’s the people. I hope to stay in touch with everyone I’ve been fortunate enough to meet here at Entity, in the mentorship program and on the staff. Because I know that whatever they endeavor to do, they endeavor to do it to well within the parameters they’re given.

Jennifer’s approach to media is a unique one. Her generosity is something to note. And one can learn something valuable by simply observing her interactions with speakers and staff. That skill alone is a very important key to success.

So I’d like to end this article by thanking the staff here at Entity. I’ve learned a lot just from seeing how they work together to bolster the company. They’re all talented people in their own rights and I appreciate them taking on the added work of the program. Without them, the experience would have been vastly different.
