Sometimes we want to make our Netflix and (actually) chill a little more exciting and switch up our movie genres.

Everyone loves a good rom-com or adventure movie, but occasionally we like to shake things up and raise our heart rate (since we know we didn’t make it to the gym this morning) by watching a few horror movies on Netflix.

As much as I love a good binge watch of my favorite Netflix shows (and I have about eight different shows queued up for when I finish “OITNB”), their movie selections are not exactly up to par with their shows. However, if you’re in the mood for a quality horror movie, Netflix has got you covered.

Here’s a quick list of the best horror movies on Netflix:

1 Would You Rather (2013)

It may be a little off-putting to see Brittany Snow in this psychological thriller if you have watched “Hairspray” recently, but this horror movie makes the top of our list for a reason.

It is not just the jump-out-at-you kind of scary, but you are kept on the edge of your seat because you want to see what is going to happen next.

2 Hush (2016)

Earning a 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this is not your average horror film. Since the main character is a deaf writer, you can only imagine the suspense when a killer comes to her window.

No cracking of tree branches or footsteps to warn this poor girl; we have to know if/how she escapes? She sounds badass.

3 The Babadook

While its title may sound funny or childish, the film most certainly is not. With an amazing 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie is as quality as horror movies get.

Things are always creepier when children are involved, and this one really covers all the bases in satisfying our horror film frenzy.

4 The Human Centipede (2009)

If you haven’t seen this film, we recommend you grab at least five of your closest friends, some popcorn and sit down and watch. It might not be pleasant, and you might not be able to get the images out of your head for a while, but it is a right of passage, before you can carry on with your horror movie endeavors, to watch this grotesque film.

5 The Shining (1980)

Another classic must-see horror film we suggest. It may be from 1980, but it was a pilot of its genre and we still think it deserves the views.

It’s everything you would want from a horror film: an eerie setting, unsettling characters and of course, a man who goes off the deep end.

What we don’t recommend: Sharknado (1, 2 or 3). If you were even considering these options, we’re questioning your taste in movies.
