Brie Larson is an American actress climbing her way to the top.

Although she’s not new to the entertainment industry, she’s becoming more recognizable because of her award-winning performance in the 2015 drama “Room.”

Marvel also announced she will be playing the lead, Captain Marvel, in the upcoming 2019 film about the female superhero.

But if you’re not familiar with the actress, then you’ve come to the right place. Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Brie Larson.

1 She landed her first gig at just seven years old.

Her first TV gig was on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”  for a parody commercial called “Mudslide Barbie.”

The young Brie Larson told Kidzworld, “It was this Barbie commercial where I got to pour mud all over Barbie dolls and watch the heads pop off. It was so exciting, a lot of fun.”

Brie also said she started acting in the second grade.

“My first role was in the Thanksgiving play. I was the Indian chasing the turkey.” Brie told Kidzworld. “All the other moms encouraged my mom to get me into acting after that. Also, when I saw the ‘Sound of Music’ at Music Circus, I knew I wanted to act.”

2 She was a major pop star.

Yes, Brie Larson is also a singer. Or at least she was back in the day.

She released a pop album in 2005 called “Finally Out of P.E.”  She told Kidzworld back then why she chose that title.

“My P.E. teacher didn’t like me at all, which was hard to deal with cuz I was usually such a teachers’ pet. So when I found out I got my record deal, I was like, ‘Yes, I’m finally out of P.E.'” Brie said.

Although her album only sold 3,500 copies, she still got the opportunity to tour with someone you all may remember: Jesse McCartney. She was pretty much living the dream of many girls.

3 Brie Larson’s received plenty of awards for her roles.

Brie Larson is known for her role as “Ma” in the movie “Room,” where she won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award.

But lets not forget the biggest award of them all. Larson also received an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in that movie.

However, Brie Larson isn’t just an actress, she’s also a director. Talk about being multi-talented. She co-wrote and co-directed two short films, “Weighting” and “The Arm,” which won the Special Jury Award for Comedic Storytelling at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

According to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, only seven percent of last year’s Hollywood movies were directed by women.

But that isn’t stopping Brie Larson from being part of that percentage.

Larson told Vanity Fair, “I felt like, what better time for me to direct than now, when I don’t have a stigma attached of this extra scrutiny, like, ‘Oh, she’s an actor—now she wants to be a director’?”

4 She is the new Captain Marvel.

As previously mentioned, Marvel announced Brie Larson as the new face of Captain Marvel.

When Marvel Studios was looking for the actress to play Captain Marvel, they wanted someone who had energy and a great attitude. What better person for that job than Brie Larson?

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios told Vanity Fair, “Captain Marvel has powers that far surpass many of her heroic counterparts, and in order to bring this superhero to life and make her relatable and disarming we needed an actress with both range and humanity,” he said. “So, like the best of our leading characters who have brought the Marvel Universe to life, Brie possesses the depth and energy that can fuse firepower, guts, and a great story.”

We can’t wait.

5 Her name isn’t Brie Larson.

Brie Larson’s real name is Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers.

She changed her name because she said people always mispronounced her birth name. However, her last name, Larson, isn’t made up. She actually used her great-grandmother’s last name.

Her family is French-Canadian, so it’s not much of a surprise that some people had a hard time pronouncing her name. Although the actress was born in Sacramento, California, her first language was French. In an interview with The Film Stage, Brie Larson admitted that she slowly started to forget how to speak French.

“It’s something that as I got older and I started learning more English, I started losing more and more of my French speaking. But it is in there and I do know some of it still,” she said.

But French-speaking or not, Brie Larson is definitely an actress to look out for. From singing, acting, writing and producing, Brie Larson is one of the #WomenThatDo.
