This might be cheesy – but I fell in love with my boyfriend because of his humor. He’s a huge goofball and he’s always ready with a cheesy pickup line to make me laugh. You could say he’s the peanut butter to my jelly. (Lol!)

It’s a weird concept to ask for cheesy pickup lines, but asking your significant other for pickup lines might start some fun conversations.

You can still “pick up” your significant other.

Awww. <3

You might be long past the “pickup” stage in your relationship. Or are you? Just because you struck gold finding each other, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep digging. (Ok, ok, I’ll stop. Haha!) Flirting in a long-term relationship is hugely important and using pickup lines that compliment your partner can make them feel good. Humor is a great way to make you both feel comfortable.

According to the Social Issues Research Centre (SIRC), “Judicious use of humor can reduce anxiety and establish a relaxed mood which helps a relationship to develop more rapidly.”

Lines like, “Did you wash your pants with Windex? Because I can see myself in them” are ridiculous because they would probably never work on a stranger. But, according to SIRC, “A slightly risqué joke can help to escalate the level of intimacy in a flirtatious conversation.” It’s good to remind your partner you’re interested in upping the intimacy in the relationship.

The cheesier the better: laughing together is important.

Rawr.

On the list of things people want in a partner, “someone who makes me laugh” is usually at the top. I know it was my number one requirement. We all know that laughing is good for us. But laughing with your partner makes for a successful relationship.

A pickup line like, “Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?” can show how much of a hopeless romantic your partner is. Respond by saying, “Yeah, try it again. Let me see your best catwalk” and then laugh at their silly strut.

Dropping a cheesy pickup line is a nice icebreaker for deeper conversations.

If you’re unsure of how to start a conversation, cheesy pickup lines are the perfect way to start. They might lead to deeper topics. For instance, “Are you religious? Because you’re the answer to all my prayers” can start a conversation about your values in a lighthearted way. You might have different or similar ideas of religion. Either way, bringing some humor to the serious conversations is never a bad way to go.

Cheesy pickup lines can tell you about their intentions.

This one’s mine.

It’s hard to know what your partner wants 24/7. When you’re newly dating it can be hard to know what each of you wants for the relationship. By far the best cheesy pickup line my man gave me was, “Hey, feel my jacket. It’s made out of boyfriend material.” Lines like this confirm that your partner is in the relationship for the long run. Plus, if they have a jacket you get to wear then it’s even better. Know what I mean? (They’re never getting that jacket back.)

This one is a keeper.

When we met, the first thing my boyfriend said to me was a pickup line to beat them all. He made it up himself. It was a little daring but it worked for me. He noticed I liked a certain show and he rolled with it. “The fact that you like the Venture Brothers pretty much sold me. When are we getting married?” he said.

Yes, I did save this screenshot.

I told him I was free on Monday.

Take some of these cheesy pickup lines for a spin with your significant other. Don’t be afraid to be a little daring and a lot cheesy. You might be surprised by how much you both laugh. And hey, you might learn something new about each other along the way!
