Christian high school bans pregnant honor student from graduation, Entity reports.

A Christian high school in Maryland is banning one student from graduation because she is pregnant.

Because you know, shaming a young woman and stripping her of everything she has worked so hard for is totally the Christian thing to do.

Apparently The Heritage Academy makes students sign a code of conduct each year, which forces students to swear things such as “protecting my body by abstaining from sexual immorality and from the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs…”

Maddi Runkles and her family acknowledge the pledge, but are confused as to how their school can be pro-life and yet still punish a woman for coming clean about her pregnancy AND choosing to carry the baby. Oh — you’re starting to see how that works now, are you?

“It’s a small school and it is such a big deal and I am the only one that is not going to be there that night to walk the stage,” Runkles said. The 4.0 student was also made to step down from all of her leadership positions at school after revealing her pregnancy, and received a two-day suspension.

“You can’t be pro-life, but then refuse to support the girl that keeps her baby,” she said. Ah, but they can Maddi, they can.

Welcome to the confusing, nonsensical world of the Christian right. Like all of those men in government who want to get rid of abortion as well as access to birth control and family planning — that’s a head scratcher. Oh yeah, and do away with women’s access to affordable health care, making giving birth obscenely costly, and while they’re at it, ax maternity care and maternity leave altogether.

So, you know, shame on you if you don’t want to have a baby – but if you make the “righteous” decision to carry and keep the baby, well, God help you figure out how you’re going to afford it. Because no one else is going to help.

What a blessed time to be alive.
